The easiest, DIY mod for the least amount of money would be a new air intake system. It's simple, and can add some HP. There's lots of talk, so I'd look it up. Gains aren't going to be noticeable though, but you get some sound and a tad bit of power. Then exhaust - which is about the same in both areas. After that... things get really expensive. A shift kit will definitely get you the power you seek out of your auto transmission. That is by far the best upgrade I ever added to my 02. You can really feel the power with that one. That's easily 500 bucks though. After that, the sky is the limit price wise.

Appearance wise, the Stillen front lip is very popular, and compliments the car well. With a dark colored Max, I always liked the clear side markers.

I just wanted to point out that, exterior visual mods are not related to performance. (thread topic)

Seriously tho, I recommend NWP thermal spacers (esp. if you get a true intake not GAB), and 17* timing advance besides the obvious Intake/exhaust.

The two things that seemed to make an immediate difference on the SE 5-speed without breaking the bank are:

1) Warpspeed Y-pipe (already noted in another suggestion thread)

2) NWP Engine Torque Link Bracing Kit (though I think other stuff from NWP will be good too)

If you have to ask, you probably haven't done any research.

Get a budget, think about what you want, execute.

Ill be putting on my warpspeed Y pipe on whenever it comes in, which complete my modding for HP/TRQ

Not sure what the horsepower will look like, but my torque will likely be around the range of what the 3.5 maximas put out on a stock auto. a bit over 200wtrq.

I would say the most power you are going to pick up will be from freeing up the exhaust....get rid of the crimped b-pipe, get rid of the main cat......get rid of at least one of your pre cats. Timing advance is also another mod you can do for close to free if you find someone who can do it. You'll be forced to run nothing less than premium gas though. Do a search...it shuld turn up a lot of threads.

Ha...well ive done SRI mod, +2 timing, Grounding kit, b pipe, test pipe, soon to be y pipe. Whats left thats worth it ona car with 203k miles?....I dont want to mess with my variable induction, Im quite happy with that.....i dont care about headers....throttle body spacer maybe? Is that even worth it? Meh.

Theres already a dyno up for my current mod state. I cant remember if it includes the timing advance though Thats only 1-2hp across the range anyway. Paying for dyno setup before and after mod will be costlier. Im paying to have it put on because i KNOW those bolts are rusted to sh**. I dont want to have too much money tied into this mod..lol
