Manual Tranny Drain & Fill - Confused
Hey folks,
So I have a 2000 Maxima SE, and I'm doing a tranny drain and fill (it's a manual) with Redline MT-90. At this point I'm pretty confused. I just filled it to where the fluid is beginning to drip out of the fill plug, AKA it's full, but I put in just over 5 quarts of fluid. . .
I re-read through the FSM (page 13 of maintenance) on fluids and lubricants, and it states that if I have the RS5F50A (open transaxle) I'll use anywhere from 7.75 to 8.5 quarts, and if I have teh RS5F50V (HLSD transaxle) I'll use somewhere between 3.75 and 4 quarts. Seeing as how I used just over 5, I'm fairly confused. I thought I had the open transaxle. I've looked for the plate on the tranny that tells me what I have, but I can't find it anywhere. So basically I'm really curious as to what transaxle I have, along with why it took 5 quarts.
Any help?

Your car has an ID plate on the firewall which will denote which trans you have.
You can also jack the front end up off the ground & spin one of the wheels. If they rotate in different directions you have an open diff. If they rotate the same direction you have VLSD.
Good luck.
