You must have completely missed the post where I linked dyno proven gains after someone slapped on a 3" catback.

I don't care how long you've been doing whatever you believe. Doesn't mean you're right. Again, it's not like this info is new.

I think CMax was just talking about how to quiet the 3.0" system down. However, I am still completely undecided on what size to get. I originally wasn't even going to get a catback, but you guys kinda convinced me too. I don't ever plan on getting into the cams and really tuning it out, so I feel like a 2.5 inch behind a 2.5 inch high flow cat, obx headers, NWP spacers, and a custom SRI would be appropriate. I am still open to the idea of a 3.0", but after spending hours upon hours of searching through the forums, nobody has actually provided conclusive evidence or numbers on the 3.0" being better. All I see is "get the 3.0 inch!" with nothing to back it up. I've even looked through the dynos and couldn't find anything. And yes, I have seen that one 3.0" vs 2.5" dyno sheet, but the picture was so small, I couldn't even read any of it.

WOW!!!!!!! Those numbers are phenomenal!!! I am definitely sold on the 3.0" catback!!! Now it's time to order! Sadly Cattmans not making them anymore, so I guess I'll settle on BRM.....

Well..... Had my intake manifold, cooling fans, heat shields, and crossmember/mounts off and then I started trying to unbolt the y pipe from the cat and it wouldn't budge. My Dad and I were trying to get it off for about an hour, I used lots of penetrating fluid and even used a torch. So, now I'm putting everything back together and will just be having a shop do it.....

Instead of giving up you still have other options. If you can reach the bolts in question you can use either a dremel or an angle grinder to cut out the bolts in question, depending on available access. Another option is bolt removers for damaged nuts/bolts, they typically fit onto a ratchet, and can get a bite on the damaged/rounded bolt heads. Purchasing a few more tools is vastly preferable to paying a shop to do this, given that you were so close to having everything disassembled already.

Which bolt(s) are you having issues removing? Precats, or main cat to y-pipe?

It was the y pipe to main cat bolts. However, I just realized that since I'm redoing my entire exhaust from the block back, I could've just cut everything out. But, since I got my own resonator to use for the catback, I am having my friend weld it in, and since he's got to take measurements and what not, I just figured I would have him do it all. I wanted to help with the install, but his uncle wouldn't let me due to liability issues in the shop. I do have a question though. The high flow cat I got has a 3 inch inlet and outlet, but for the y pipe to inlet, I bought a 2.5 inch gasket. The y pipe is 2.5 inches, so should I go with the 2.5 inch gasket or a 3 inch gasket?

The 2.5" gasket will be fine since you have a 2.5" flange.

Well these VQ motor are actually being choked down quite alot...Intake and exhaust! Does my Cattman header equipped (2.25" collector thru a 2.5" cat) connected to a 3" catback make more power HELL YES!!! These car breaks the tires loose just stepping into the throttle gradually where as before stumping it was necessary...The acceleration is better, quicker, and more exciting....I thought it would be a slug down low and it's not...modding your intake to 4" and increasing the TB size along with spacers seems to make these motor breathe alot better....But with the 3" catback, headers, and a little JWT popcharger you'll see an increase in power...it's not a myth it's a fact!

Finally got everything installed! Had a friend install the 3 inch high flow cat and 3 inch BRM catback with an 18x6 magnaflow resonator and then I installed the headers over the last couple days. I took it for a test drive this morning and it is so much faster!!! It's pretty darn loud, but it's whatever. I'm just glad to have the precats gone and the extra power. I'll post some sound clips once I get a chance.

Now swap that 14" Magnaflow for a larger 5" x 11" x 22" Magnaflow muffler (twin outlet) and put in about 500-1000 miles and the soot buildup/accumulation will result in a quieter exhaust system...

I think some of the drone/vibration noise is coming from the piping between the cat and the resonator. It's resting on one of the supports, so maybe I'll see if I can get it lifted off the support somehow.

If it's the rear safety catch support...You can fix that with some longer bolts and by shimming it with washers.

I think that's what it is. There's two of them. One before the resonator and one after it. Couldn't I just remove the safety catch, or is it necessary to have?
