Hey guys! "Service Engine Soon" light came on in my car.....
In my car "Service Engine Soon" light came on and is scaring the hell out of me. I'm afraid to take it to the dealer cuz I should still be under warrenty but after the mod I don't think I'll be cover under warrenty. Does any guys had this problem before? Oh.....I got 2000 Maxima I bought it on May of 2000 and only have 20500 miles on it.....

In my first max, that light used to come on if I put in gas my car didn't like (especially if it was 89 octane or less). I've never used anything but 93 in the one I've got now, and that light has never come on, so it could just be the gas you put in.

depends on what mods you've got. but i had the same light on my 2k max purchased 7/00. i took it into the dealer even after my 36000 miles and they reprogrammed the catalytic converter parameters. apparently, our maxes were programmed out of the factory with too tight of tolerances. they'll reprogram the cat so that it'll take a wider variation in the gases without throwing the engine light. you'll be fine. if you're wary of taking it in, just disconnect you battery overnight to reset the ecu first. the light will go away, but i may return. if so, remove whatever easy engine mods you've got and take it in for the reprogram. it took my dealer about 30 minutes and they did it for free.

I disconnect the battery for like a minute and connected together and the light still came on......but ur saying that I should've disconnect for like a day?? Only mod I have is the exhaust and the Stillen hi-flow intake and I only have 20500 milies on. I guess the dealer won't fix it under warrenty right??

You should be able to get anything repaired(other than normal maintenance) under the 36k warranty for free.

warranty work shouldn't really be that big of a deal. just be insistent and don't take their bs.
another idea is to take it to an independant shop with a scanner. they'll usually scan first to diagnose the problem, then quote you a price to fix whatever it is. if it's too much, or if you think it's something covered under warranty, then you can walk away and try the dealer. otherwise, the dealer will charge you $70 just to scan it.
