Power Steering Hose replaced. Car makes whining noise now.

My baby, 2000 Max with 212K, just had its power steering hose replace because it was leaking fluid. Stopped leaking, but the car has a really bad whining noise coming from under the hood, on the passenger side. Mechanic, who I've used for a while with no problems, said this is normal for a power steering hose replacement and should go away in a few weeks. Does this sound right to you? Thanks, Dave

not sure but there could be air in the lines that he believes will dissipate with time. there are quite a few members who have had this same line replaced. I'm sure one of them will chime in soon.
good luck!

In my experience, if it's an aftermarket hose which it probably is, the whine won't go away.
Use an OEM hose and you'll have no problem.

Some have used an aftermarket hose and said they haven't had a problem, but every one I've seen with a non OEM hose have made the noise.

Thanks for your replies. What is the actual noise that I'm hearing?
Assuming the mechanic is not going to replace the hose, can the air be bled out?

He can bleed to his hearts content, but I say the noise won't go away. Have posted this before, but many
years ago we were leaving for Florida and I needed the hose in a hurry for the daughter's car, so I
did an install with an aftermarket hose and bleeding the day before we left and now, maybe 4 years
later it still whines under certain conditions.
Only solution, use an OEM hose.

I replaced the hose with a Dorman 979-502 from Advanceautoparts, and it has been holding well. No whining noise.

What is it exactly about an aftermarket hose that causes the noise to happen that is different than an OEM. Don't just say quality, what property is causing this?

Good question to which I don't have a definitive answer.
I still have the OE PS hose hanging in the pole shed, but never investigated what the
difference might be, but I would say that the flow rate is less than the OE. Either hose
diameter and/or connection ID.
