Cam Sensor, is it easy to change '02 Maxima?

Hi. I took my car to meineke to get the struts fixed. They said that my cam sensor needs to be replaced, but it would be $300 to fix it. Is this something I can do myself with no experience in fixing a car? It's there a guide where I can locate the came sensor? Thanks!

How did they determine your cam sensor was bad? SES light was on?

Yeah, it has been on for a bit. I had a feeling it was it, but they confirmed it.

Yes, it's easy to replace.
You did not say what year you car is; in either case, download yourself the proper FSM from here: http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/ . The camshaft sensor is located on the passenger side, on the chain cover. The EC section of the FSM shows its location in more detail, see page EC-21 (of the FSM for 2000 Maxima).

No, there's two cam sensors and both are on the driver's side of the heads.

Never trust mechanics unless you have a reason to. Get the code checked yourself and make sure that's what it is. 300 for a cam sensor is highway robbery.

Replace both.

I've personally used cam sensors from napa before and they're good.

I wouldn't even bother with junkozone.

If you can get oem cheap, sure.
