01 maxima 5 speed E-brake issue...
Hey everyone! I have a 2001 maxima se, 5spd MT.
I just went to try to drive away yesterday and after starting the car, putting the brake down I still went nowhere... it seems like even after disengaging the hand brake it is still hanging on and not unlatching.
Any ideas on what this issue is or what I could do besides try to get around with my rear tires locked up lol?
Thanks for your time!!
TJ.

Was the car recently lifted or jacked up? It's possible to pinch and kink the cable which will cause your exact problem. You'll be able to engage it with the force of the lever but the spring that releases it isn't enough to overcome the kink.
If it's kinked it'll most likely be on one side. Jack the rear of the car and see if one or both wheels are locked. If one is locked, trace the line and look for damage.
The e-brake setup is pretty simple. You can disconnect it from the rear brakes to get you going now without affecting the regular braking.
It could also be a locked up caliper but check the cable first.

My 02' Maxima e-brake lines freeze up and are impossible to pull up in the winter.
If you left the e-brake up all night and it's below freezing, they're probably stuck. Happened to me and I had to leave the e-brake down for a day or 2 and they were fine, can't use my ebrake till I replace them but yeah.
