Error Code P0720 for 2000 Nissan Maxima

A few weeks ago, my car began intermittently not going over 30 miles per hour. When I would step on the gas, the rpm gauge would peg all the way to the right.

Around the time this started, my "Service Engine Soon" light came on. When I took the car to AutoZone to have the codes read, one of them came up as P0720, and I was told this was for a vehicle/transmission speed sensor.

in the Haynes manual for my car, the part referred to as a speed sensor looked like this: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/c...208/20473323-P. My Haynes manual also said the sensor could be accessed by going under the hood. I bought the sensor, replaced it Sunday, and cleared out the code.

My car was fine until Wednesday night when it started the intermittent not going over 30 miles per hour again. The "Service Engine Soon" light came back on, also.

I did some research, and it appears there may be more than one sensor called a speed sensor. I found some things, including a You Tube video, which state that there's something called a speed sensor which is accessed by removing the front driver wheel. I found another part called a speed sensor on Advance Auto Parts' website that matches the one in the You Tube video: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/d...m=speed+sensor. However, if this sensor is discussed in my Haynes manual, I can't find where.

Since replacing the one sensor didn't work, should I go ahead and try replacing this other one? Has anyone else with a 2000 Nissan Maxima GXE had this issue? Does the car have more than one speed sensor, or are either of the sensors I mentioned above called by something else?

Thank you.

Did you replace both speed sensors? i believe there is an upper one ontop of the tranny and a lower one based on that thread i peeked at.

No, I've only replaced the one that goes on top of the transmission, the sensor with the green spirally-looking top. If I understand what I just read, the other "speed sensor", the one on the side of the transmission that's accessed by removing the front driver's side wheel, is also called a transmission revolution sensor. Correct? Would any other issue or part going bad cause that P0720 error code? Money is tight. That other sensor is pricey, so I want to make sure I need it before I buy it.

The sensor you need generates an electrical signal for the TCU/ECU ("revolution' sensor). You can buy it here http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....359222&jsn=447 , about $75.
