2012 Maxima Service Engine Soon Light (SEL / CEL) Code P0101
Hey Guys,
So i took my Maxima to the dealership where I bought it from to get my free oil change this past Monday. They changed the oil and then recommended that I change the air filter ($60), rotate and align tires ($140) and change brake fluid ($199). I thought the price was too high and told the guy I'll do those things myself.
The next morning, it was about 20F degrees with wind chills of close to 0F degrees and after starting my car, the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. I took it to Autozone to get the code read and they got code P0101.
Troubleshooting Error Code- P0101
Definition- MAF sensor circuit range/ performance error
Probable Cause
1- Open or short circuit conditions
2- Poor electrical connection
3- Faulty IAT sensor
4- Faulty EVAP control system pressure sensor
5- Faulty MAF sensor
The car has been running fine but I'm wondering if the cold has anything to do with this code or did the dealer forget to put something back when checking the air filter. Anyone else run into this problem too? Should I bring it back to the dealership or try resetting the code to see if it comes back?
Thanks in advance for your input

I'm having the same issue with my 2012 SV @ 24k miles. I got the P0101 code a few weeks ago. It went away but came back over the weekend. I cleared it to see if it comes back.
I did find this about the issue:

According to maximase86, it seems like the ECU needs to be reprogrammed according to the service bulletin NTB12-051J. I'm planning on calling the stealership about it when the code comes back.

Had the same issue on my 2011 a few weeks ago. MAF sensor was dirty, cleaned it with MAF Sensor cleaner - cost 8$. I had an after market air filter (K&N) installed. I learned that these sometimes let dirt or oil particules reach the sensor. Once the MAF sensor was clean, Check Engine Soon light / P0101 never came back. Good luck!

I disconnect the battery terminals yesterday to clean them. This morning the P0101 code came back. I'll try cleaning the MAF and check the ground connection before I clear the code again or take to the stealership.

Just had that exact problem today. I went and cleaned up my entire engine bay, but before all that I disconnected my battery and cleaned up the MAF sensor and connector with products from my local auto shop as well as cleaned my K&N Typhoon cold air intake with the proper products. Maxi's running like new now and my gas mileage dropped by 4! I was running almost 12.0 and it is now at 7.9-8.5!

Update. Within a week after my last post I purchased the AEM 28-20031 DryFlow Air Filter from Amazon. The P0101 code went away after I replaced the OEM stock air filter with the new air filter. The code hasn't been back since. Knock on wood.
I bought my 2012 Maxima in January 2016 with less than 18k miles on it. The filter was dirty. Makes me wonder if the filter was ever replaced.

What was the outcome, I'm having the same issue right now. I changed to a K&N and now changed back to stock..
