Is it actually blown (cracking and distorted) or just not playing at all?

In that case it's probably not the relay. Many of us have had to replace, bypass or resolder one relay near the sub that causes intermittent, and eventually permanent, cutout.

There are others here with a lot more stereo knowledge than I have. Hopefully they'll help.

I just folded up cardboard and superglued it to the relay in the sub amp so it presses up on the housing, been working great ever since

Bose speakers are not compatible with aftermarket speakers. Aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm and Bose speakers are 1 ohm. If you put in an aftermarket speaker in a Bose system, you won't hear anything.

Oh, cmon, now. That's absurd and not how electricity works. It will have a fraction of the power, but it will still work. I had 12s hooked up to the stock blose sub wires. I had very efficient boxes (home made ftw). Granted, in parallel, they were 2 ohms, but even that ****ty little amp could make them pound hard in comparison to the stock speaker. A more efficient speaker that's also dual voice coil would work better than stock (doubt free air subs are common, though). Stock is pure garbage, though. Free air...wtf were these ******** thinking (cheap skate ****s).

Plenty of speakers in the junkyard, OP.

Is there a speaker that you know of that will mount in place of the stock bose sub that I can just replace it thats what im looking for. I kinda want to aviod junkyards because they may be no good also but if thats the only option I will just have to go to the junkyard

Nope, never looked into it. It really is pointless. Replace head unit and get a real sub is the route you go if you replace anything with non-stock.

The actual speaker failing should be rare. If the solder joint is bad on the junkyard one, then you can either fix it or splice in the electronics part from yours.
