150 too expensive. Injen is crap, anyway. Make your own.

That's a generic overpriced kit. And it's not a true CAI. Build you own I say.

i wish i got into the intake game, i never prioritized just wanting high end power enough tho,

that NWP throttle body would be bad *** if you had an existing nice intake setup

If done properly, an intake can benefit all around.

I’m into the TB and think it be cool as hell with my set-up but damn, that price though. I shouldn’t be lazy and go ahead and source my own TB and I’m sure I might be able to wire it up, and just save $$ and get the adapter. Damn me and my laziness.

Although it doesn’t help that I’ve got an oil burner with 173k on the clock (1qt/3k) … that’s probably why I haven’t crossed that TB boundary.

and yea that TB is a pretty penny for sure !! makes the $220 spacers same hp tq a lot more worth it.

i think all cars will burn when they get closer to 200k... I am @ 194k - 1.5 qt per oci (oil change interval) at least I think so, i wanna switch to that special oil tho from talkinghorse.

and simply put what well done intake would benefit all spectrums of power? i have puppetmasters GAB, and def felt it favor high end and in return take that away from low end almost the exact difference.

All the intake components are pretty easy to source but the challenge is the midpipe.

I have found it difficult to find one that is reasonably priced . It's amazing how all the 5th gen aftermarket intakes have basically disappeared from Ebay.

You don't need anything fancy. Any pipe will work. You don't even need the PCV hose. I ran it with just a breather for years. Idle was never affected.

There is a chance this midpipe would work.

It would need to be shortened on both ends. I don't know if the tube for the PCV hose is the right diameter. If it is correct, you would obviously need a longer PCV hose. The filter is probably marginal at best, but the clamps and couplers might be usable.

That's interesting. Sounds like a good idea. If you deleted the PCV hose, would that reduce or eliminate blow-by?

Do you currently or did you previously have a catch can?

Any idea if there are any downsides to replacing the PCV hose with a breather?

It wouldn't do anything except allow in some unmetered air and keep build up off the TB. If you don't like unmetered air, then you can delete the PCV in the rear.

Crank case vacuum is supposed to seat the rings better. Meh, I'll take no oil in the intake and fewer vac hoses.

PCV is deleted on my 5.7 swap and Z32. I use a ****ty catch can setup on my spec v, but that's b/c it's an oilaholic.

I'm going to look into this. I'm liking the sound of it. What breather did you use? Anything special or a generic filter/breather?

I just installed a catch can last month. Really wishing I did it the day I bought the car.

Do you have any thoughts on the midpipe I linked to in post 11?

It would work. Filter flows extremely well, but I'm sure the filtration quality is lackluster (I use AEM dryflow). If you get a 6" filter that doesn't have some sort of velocity stack built in, then I would at least get an el cheapo stack.

Any breather filter should be fine. If you're worried, just oil it lol

This is a good list.

For anyone looking to piece together an intake, you'll also need a MAF adapter.

This one seems pretty decent:

There are a bunch of plastic adapters on Ebay as well.

Honestly, a GAB and K&N drop-in will get you about the same power and sound of an intake.

LRMAF (N62) 82mm or the Jetta 4".

Or, CGR intake, all in 1.

For the Jetta MAF Search eBay for 102mm or 100mm VW MAF. If not, I've got one of them FS if you'd like. Also Have an 82mm if you'd like that one too.
