00 Maxima idel problomes please help!

I just got a 2000 Maxima and when I got the car it would only start with when you pressed the gas pedal all the way to the floor and it idels like crazy up and down until it warms up then when warm it stays up at like 3 grand and when you rev the car it cuts out at 3500 I had a scan tool on it and it read. - ignition control switch - and - ETC motor power - I was told it could be tps I adjusted it and it kinda helped but still idels like crazy. Don't know what to do any help would be appreciated!! thanks!

The 2000 maxima has a mechanical throttle body, so for it to rev that high there must be a loose vacuum hose on the engine or the iacv is stuck open.

Well i scaned it with the live data tool and looked for any vacume leaks I don't think that's it. My tps reads 7.1% at idel or at what it idels at which is 2500. Still tho when you got the gas pedal it revs up to 3 and cut a out and does that over and over even just barely touching the gas pedal will a stuck IACV cause this? Thanks!

Check the resistance of the IACV stepper motor windings. They should be 22 ohms and all 4 windings should be within an ohm or two of each other.

For directions on how to do this, see pages 502 & 506 in the service manual. Link below.

Hey guys. Good news I did replace the tps today and it fixed my extremely high idle. But do still have a little bit of a high rpm problome it now stays about 1200 1300 still a little high. And car still buckles badly under a certain spot in the gas pedal when just slightly pushing it.

Check the IACV as Dennis suggested. And the read my document about ECU failure prevention (link in my signature, below).

When you replaced the TpS did you re-set the closed position?
If not you will need to get a volt meter with aligator clips.

Also did you adjust the accelerator cable?

I adjusted the tps by ear got it at the lowest idle it will go and no I did not mess with the cable.. should I? But the more I research I'm starting to think I have a bad ignition coil

I doubt if it is a bad ignition coil. A bad ignition coil would create a "dead" cylinder which would make the engine miss and the idle would be slower.

The engine cutting out at 3500 rpm sounds like a MAF, but I have not heard of a MAF causing high idle.

I fixed the extremely high idle and cutting out with a new tps bow just idles like 1200 but has a small miss when you hit the gas and it doesn't wanna start when it's warned up

its gotta be dead on!
In fact you gotta pick up a feeler gauge. Then shim the accelerator cable hook-up against the stopper as you adjust it with the gauge.
Its a real dreadful job.
Clip the volt meter on the lower top pins 4 & 5 and twist the TPS until no continuity.

Another route is just take it over to Nissan and pay them to do it.

Theyll then re-set idle air volume & closed position memory!

With this car the TB has some computer re-set involved.

Check out Nissan Data Scan 2. Online if you want to complete this job yourself but any time you remove the IACV or TPS there is some reprogramming involved.

May have to try the dealer. Really hope it doesn't come down to that do you think possibly could be a bad crank position sensor? Because it has a real bad sulfer gas smell when its struggling to start and and stumbles when you taking off and shifting

My suggestion would be to readjust The TPS then reset the closed position memory as illustrated in EC 441 (2001). Again you will need a
#1 a feeler gauge
#2 multi-meter
Check the procedure in the EC section.

Then pull CPS(POS) & (REF) & CAM check for cracks or anything unusual.

Check the oil for a fuel smell or have a small amount sent off to BlackStone for analysis. If it smells like gas then the injector valve may be leaking after the car shuts off. Then the gas puddles up on the piston

My car stumbles as well at start up after replacing everything your concerned about
It runs great though once its up and running
