Blown Head Gasket??

Saw what I thought was a good deal on Craigs, but gotta assume that fixing a blown head gasket is probably more expensive that the car itself

I'd pass on it since we have chain driven cams, If it were belt driven, I would jump on that and repair everything myself.

Depends on whether you are a do-it-yourselfer or not. Having a repair shop do it would be relatively expensive.

If you do it yourself, it doesn't matter whether the cams are belt driven or chain driven. You just have to take care that all the timing marks are aligned.

Did you check the labor hours and repair time to do it? Might still be a good deal if the repair doesn't exceed too much over $2k. If you can find a shop that let's you bring in your own parts, even better. Alternatively, you could just put in a low mileage VQ 3.5 w/warranty, and have more peace of mind. Just because you can't do the repairs yourself, doesn't mean you don't have options. Offer him $500 and see what he says... LOL!

Duly noted, I'm just saying that I would pass on it. There's different degrees of Do-it-yourselfer.

HR swap. Buy it for 5 hundo, engine is 5 hundo. It's FAR easier (some extra time replacing two gaskets in the timing cover though).

If you're getting it repaired, it would be a perfect opportunity to get the heads and plenum polished, and maybe even ported at a machine shop for an upgrade in hp.
