My 02 i35 lost power on the freeway!

I'm driving along the highway when i gave the car mid throttle to gain speed up to 70 mph. There was a surge of power, then hesitation, and another surge to 75 mph where all of a sudden the speed started to drop and would not accelerate anymore. In a panic i got off the exit ramp and coasted to a stop where the car jus died. No check engine light. Prior to this it has never happened before only when my alternator went out. It sat for 4 days over the weekend. Started up fine today. I also swapped the maf sensor before starting it today. I topped off the oil and checked the coolant before driving it like i do everyday. So after it stalled I'm just sitting here until it cools down a bit. Hopefully it's a simple fix.

Hook up your vehicle to OBD II scan tool to detect specific and impending code error. Might be the speed sensor. Fuel pump. Clogged precat.

Well after sitting for an hour she started back up with me pressing the gas pedal a few times. So i drove to my destination about 5 miles away when the engine light comes on. Now i have noticed that the floor seems to get very hot at times and also flooring the car is not an option because it boggs down so i believe the bank one cat maybe clogging up. The bank 2 cat is gutted so i always get a 430 code. But the codes were camshaft sensor timing over advanced. P0011 and p0021?

Are you low on oil ? Those are the VCT solenoid codes. They can malfunction if oil is low and they won't work properly or overtime they got clogged with oil gunk.

if thats the case it must have been a pending code from the last time i drove it. when ii checked oil today it was a half quart low, so i added more before i drove it.

Not sure where to start as far as pinpointing the problem. May start with fuel pump. Then cat. Still cranks and runs but that scared the sh$$ out of me when it died and lost power

for how scary random stalls are while driving, its worth looking into, i had no codes, i even had a dealer look at the sensors ! and they said looked fine, and it still ended up being the issue, also they were replaced on the original recall at dealership in dec 2003, but 11 years later they acted up.

sadly they are pricey and OEM only, or u are going to waste time. but def look into all 3 sensors 2 cams 1 crank

yea i never even got a code over a few months time, but eventually the stalls went from once every 2 weeks to once every other start up / drive.

Ok i definitely will look into replacing all three sensors. Because it's starting but taking slightly longer than normal and drives good but feels like it will shut off/stall at a stop, but then it catches itself as not to shut off.

yes yes yes !! this was what I was experiencing. it would be fine for 2 weeks, then do it back to back, and yea you felt u could throttle it out/up and not stall but u could feel it choking.

my only symptom (and only one time out of the 10 times mind you) to indicate it may happen was my oem Bose unit flickered its LED letters (where it says tape or fm or cd)

sensors used to come in a 3 part kit at a better price but no more, and i cant stress enough OEM, or go home ( i wasted my time the first go around and even though I asked for OEM, got napa aftermarket, and tried the aftermarket napa, and it came back in less than a years time

It's funny because OEM Hitachi sensors from Rock Auto are cheaper than the crap from auto parts stores. Luckily, I can wait a couple of days for shipping but sometimes you don't have the luxury of downtime and just need parts now.
