Items on my 7500 mi checkup

After my 7500 mi checkup I just kinda blasted out the door with my six. Inspecting the write up sheet , can someone tell me what the hell are these:

- check antifreeze and adjusted as necessary
- set timings
- Inspect HC/CO

I can understand adding anit-freeze but how the ehll do you tell the % it needs. Do they just mean added 50/50?

set timings for what?

HC/CO what is this?

Are they full of it?

for the antifreeze you can get a tool for about $1 and looks like an eyedropper. Tests the amount of antifreeze.

The dealer probaly has a better one. I think its called a hydrometer.

As for the timing, probaly reset the ECU.
Not sure that the HC.CO is?

They added antifreeze if it needed it. I doubt they checked the concentration level of it. Some new cars could have air pockets in the cooling system which purge out after they are driven.

Set timings? Must be a Nissan term

HC/CO - Inspect Hydro Carbons and Carbon Dioxide. Basically they stuck the inspection sniffer in your exaust to make sure your emmissions were OK.

I got mine at a gas station for 99 cents. You dip it in the coolant and it tells you what temperature your coolant can protect to by counting the number of ***** that float.

A more expensive one will also measure max hot temp as well as low temp. Go to any autoparts store and ask for a hydrometer to check the coolant.

Here is a how to.
