Double Take On Cranking

Have an 03 Maxima GLE. Sometime when engaging the ignition switch the first time I get nothing (no starter engaged). Second time I get an engaged starter and good to go. Looking at the circuit you have a battery, ignition switch, start relay, a transmission start neutral switch, and finally the starter. The battery is good as is the transmission start neutral switch, and the start relay, under the hood ( I replaced new. )

So have any of you guys had this problem? Does the starter have it's own integral relay? Could it have bad
brushes or commentator? Only thing with this starter, which is original, is it cranks fine. Maybe the switch part of the ignition switch could be the culprit? It doesn't appear that this 03 will leave me stranded.

I think the ignition switch in the steering column is having a problem. This is not all that unusual at all.

Yes, I'm leaning that way too, thanks for the input.

you'll get stranded if it's the starter solenoid and you don't know how to jump it :P

Starter is on it's way out. Will need replaced soon. Keep a hammer with you to tap the starter until then.

Is it an Automatic? If so see what happens if you don't unlock the shifter and move it rearward....Then see if it doesn't start....Now push the shifter forward and if it starts it's your safety neutral safety switch needs adjusting on the Shifter!

Yes is an automatic and it will only start in park or neutral.
