Manual transmission intermittent problem

I have a 2001 Maxima Anniversary Edition with 236,000 miles. My 5 speed manual transmission works very well except on occasionally when changing gears the transmission will not go into gear, there's no grinding. I have tested the clutch and pressure plate and grabs and the right height and is strong. I replaced the master cylinder and slave. But after those replacements the problem persists. I took it to a transmission machinic and of course he recommended that the clutch and pressure plate need to be replaced. I asked the machinic if he would do the repair, but his labor would be free if it didn't fix the problem. He declined. I really don't want to replace the clutch and pressure plate unless someone can tell me that I have no choice. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Start with the shifter bushings. Excess play could cause difficulty with engaging gears and it's an easy check/fix to start with. And at 236k miles, it's probably necessary anyway.

Replace bushings with ES suspension bushings kit and replace transaxle fluid with Red Line MT-85.
