5th Gen BBK - Akebono Big Brake Kit Assembly w/ Part #'s
So after doing all my research and gathering all the info I was pleased to find out doing the Front Akebono brakes to my 5.5 gen (03 Ti) will be costing a lot less than expected. Since almost all the old threads have either dead links or just turned to a ghost town I wanted to put a thread in 5th gen not brakes / suspension to hopefully make it easier for all searching to bang out a FRONT BBK on a 5.5 gen maxima far fasters and will all the info IN ONE SPOT.

Brake Caliper Part Numbers : These Vary Per Remanufacturing Establishment but these are the main ones.
Cardone - 19-6233 (pass side ) & 19-6232 (drivers side)
Powerstop - P6233 & P6232
Price Varies I've found after about a week and a half of browsing the internet - $147 to $250 (yes for two)
The $250 price is with core charge and the $147 I'm waiting to hear back from the company (also on amazon) to see if that includes core charge
(The reason I went with these two remanufacturers is because I've had great success with both fitting my M3 with 996 Brembos and lets be honest what's better than getting FRESH calipers in the mail, unpainted and ready to get a coat of your favorite color ! Tape them off and give them some high temp! ALSO they wont say Akebono on them so if you'd like to get some HIGH TEMP decals to put on after the paint and BEFORE the clear coat your wildest dreams can come true lol )

Rotors - Mitsubishi Evolution X (GSR) - FRONT 350mm
CENTRIC Rotors - Part # 121.46076 - $69.58
($18.99 shipping but rotors and pads come from the same spot)
Obviously you'll be needing two of these if you hope to stop
I prefer ordering from Rockauto .com for most of my misc things I need from filters to pads and misc stupid sensors

If you're doing the math at home you're looking at :
Calipers - $147*/$250
Brackets - $69
Pads/Rotors - $108.05

Total : $324*/$427
Now obviously if you want to go ***** out and get yourself some Stoptech pads and rotors with some Stainless Steel lines GO FOR IT ! but for a economy / budget BBK I think alittle over $400 or if the company says $147 is out the door NEW remanufactured calipers with no core … $324 I think that's a hell of a price for a BBK for a daily/winter beater and YEA BUDDY they'll match the M3's Brembos ! I hope this helps a bunch of the people that may be still looking figure it out a lot faster and when everything is here and ready to go ill 100% make a install thread from painting to tightening the last lug nut before the drive to test.
SO for anyone searching I'm gonna include all the keywords I searched so maybe this thread will pop up in the future

Should work for '89-'08 but earlier years will need to drill out their knuckles to accept larger bolts.
EDIT: Should be specified in the title that this is for Akebonos.

mainly because they match the brembos on my M3 ! I mentioned in the post I used the 996 brembos on there so I didn’t want the maxima to feel left out .... now to start the research and possible developement of a dear set up ? Hmm maybe the 350z brembos with the dual caliper for the e-brake. In my case it got traded in at work with 88k almost spotless besides the hood flaking in a spot (which will be painted hood, bumper , new lip come spring) it’s a automatic so e brake isn’t a big deal if I can’t fabricate something up and with 88k for $2200 whose complaining ! Heated seats and steering wheel!

14 inch rotors, nice! Thank you for posting! Great information and a wonderful reference!

for all those on stock wheels, looking to do this, these 14" rotors probably won't fit OEM 17" 5.5 gen wheels. the 6th gen rotors are 12.4" and fit nicely but with not much more room to go. and for more context, 6th gen rotors def do not fit 5th gen 16" OEM wheels

ahh gotcha, makes way more sense now. dude that think so freaking mint, i cant believe you got that much of a deal on that! i am looking at a mint one in CT (just seeing the market out of curiousity) and its a 2002 white w tan interior like $4k at 77k miles.
and same I was wondering on the rotor size as well, OP r u gonna be ok on clearance? i guess those rays should be fine, wasnt sure if u ride those all the time tho,

I'd have to eyeball since I just installed akebonos on my FX45, but I have a set of evo brembos too. From what I recall, the brembos looks a tick smaller (not as wide or tall) than the akebonos. I could be wrong though

If you're still around... Do these calipers cause more fitment issues with respect to width than diameter? I have 18x8.5 +35mm to run in summer, but half the year I've got stock 17s. Looking for a suitable brake upgrade for both sets of wheels.
#23
Yeah 6th gen might have to do. But what kind of eye candy will the calipers provide? I'll have to scour the forum to see if there are some good photos that Photobucket didn't ruin.
Found some...

I want bigger rotors... looks like there's lots of room in there yet

Nevermind the rust on the rotor edge. I cut those rotors down a few mm to clear the calipers. You won't have to do that and I'm actually going to correct that by removing material from the calipers then replacing these with that new pair of the same, coated Brembo blanks I fitted up with the 6 pot in my thread. Cutting the rotors was dumb and I regret it. The coating on these blanks never rusts and it was all cut off with the machine work. Very little has to be removed from the calipers to clear. This is all plug and play, and cheap, btw. $100 for rotors, $160 for calipers. Pads of course can be whatever you want.

Your ugly stockers (same as mine) are hiding the most important part of the calipers
Do they look like this? https://maxima.org/forums/7th-genera...l#&gid=1&pid=1

Anyways, yes, they look like that. Those are 350Z dual pots.
I know for a fact now that knuckle mounting tab dimensions and brake component configurations are a direct cross, backwards and forward compatible for:
*A32, A33, A34, A35, A36, V34, V35, V36, Z32, Z33, Z34
This is not a comprehensive list, as I haven't compared with/verified other Nissan models, but I do know that with more research the list would grow based on compatibility charts I've seen. The above is just Maxima, G and Z cars. Granted you have wheel clearance, you can run, plug and play, anything any of those generation models came OEM equipped with. Anything you want from 1998 through 2016
*(except for bolt hole size, which is M12 for this gen)

Those wheels are in great shape! My stockers actually aren't too bad either considering they're 17 years old already.
If I'm going to upgrade, I want 4-pot calipers, that's the prettiest solution. Now I just need to find some that will fit within the stock 17" wheels. (I'd be OK with a small wheel spacer if necessary)

Get Z32 caliper dimensions from slamrod. He's sitting on a loose pair right now.

I did similar a few months ago. 350z dual piston calipers but with off the shelf 05 mustang gt rotors. I wanted a rotor I could install with no modifications to the part.
Needed to build a hub centering ring for the rotor, a second set of caliper bracket bolt washers between the bracket and knuckle, and very light shaving on the caliper bracket and caliper bridge area.
A little more work but now that it's done I can replace pads and rotors without having to plan ahead.
