replacement engine

I have a 2001 maxima SE (3.0) and I want to know what engines besides the 3.0 will fit.... and any suggestions on where I should look for a reliable replacement

Nothing unless you convert 3.5 to 3.0 timing or do ECU swap, too.

What's your level of mechanical knowledgeable?

As he said above, if you want more power, toss in a second gen vq35de from a newer Maxima/Altima and swap the timing cover back to 3.0.

That'll be all kinds o fun
