Hr Swap Timing

I know when swapping the hr motor in you need to change the timing to 3.0 timing. Instead of doing that, can I just tune my stock 2001 ecu or even get amother ecu and tune it to 3.5 timing? I was already going to be getting it tuned and thought I might be able to save myself a step. Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean the newer HR headed FWD VQ35DEs in the Alti and Max.. An RWD HR motor isn't going to work.

You have 2 options.
1. Full swap with a 3.5 ecu and everything associated
2. Swap to 3.0 timing

Both options have enough information posted to assist someone who is capable of doing either swap.

If you could run a stock 3.5 engine on a 3.0 ecu or something else without a bunch of rewiring, nobody would swap to 3.0 timing.
