Weird noise from steering

My 2k maxima has 28k miles on it and when making left turns at full lock an audible "clunking" sound can be heard and felt in the car. Is this normal and what kind of damage is being caused?

could be your CV axles....although they are typically more of a popping sound... if its only when you turn and is actually mroe like a popping sound thats probably what it is

it happens to me sometimes, if i'm backing out of my garage, turning my steering wheel right, the wheel makes a noise like a clunking sound

Good question. I thought a long time ago someone here had some problem with a loose strut mount. I don't recall if it was a TSB. I couldn't find it in the stickies.

The clunking sound you are describing can be caused by a worn strut bearing. Check out this website for more info: http://www.motorvate.ca. If your car is still under the 3yr/36k warranty, I would bring it to the dealer.

I had the same exact problem as you guys are describing when my car had 7K miles. It turned out that the strut was shot.
