Won't Idle Until Warmed Up

[SOLVED]

2000 Maxima 5sp manual 186k

[PROBLEM]

I just bought this Maxima and it idles out until it's warmed up. Any idea what might cause that and how to fix it?

Thanks.

[SOLUTION]

Changed upper and lower intake manifold gaskets (used RTV on the upper one). Problem solved.

it's probably the idle control valve but first check
if there's any cracks or rips in the intake
spray the throttle body clean
clean the idle valve there's usually is allot of crap on the plunger.

mine used to die first acouple starts turned out the idle control was messed up and coolant was getting
past the seals. they're cheap anyway.

Check if your Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) has a GREEN DOT STICKER on it. If not, it's probably a faulty factory MAF. Very common part failure and will cause exactly the problem you describe. Get a new OEM MAF first.

Cite your source or go back to facebook. You have no idea what you're talking about.

I'll pull the MAF out of my other Maxima and try it out. But since I smell too much gas or maybe coolant burning when the car's cold, I'm guessing something's wrong with the IACV causing it to run rich until it warms up. I've only driven the car a few times and it's only been cold started by me three times (it's a new car to me). No telling what it is, but I have my other Maxima that was running great so I can pull all the parts I need off of it.

There's no need to be rude.

It's on a Nissan TSB but I can't find which one; most are not publicly posted online. But this subject has been discussed on the forum before. The green dot indicates it was replaced. Nissan does this with certain problem-prone parts, such as the coil packs (Grey dots).

Well, the MAF was screwed up, but I can't be sure that was the problem because I found other issues and fixed them at the same time. There was a spark plug that had vibrated to a very loose position, crappy coil packs (grey dot on them) and the IAC valve was dirty as can be so I replaced all of those things.

The problem still doesn't appear to be fixed, but I think that's because I need to do an idle relearn. I'll try that tomorrow and, hopefully, that'll fix the problem.

Grey dot is the improved part. If it were missing the dot, that would indicate that it was factory original.

Sorry to hear this still isn't fixed. Do you have any DTCs?
