Fuel gauge issues

Hello, I’m running into a strange issue with my Maxima. I have a faulty fuel gauge that’s throwing code P0462. I replaced the sending unit, and just recently had my instrument cluster tested which it turns out is ok. What else could be causing this issue?

How would I go about testing the sending unit or wiring? I have a digital multimeter, but I’m not sure what to look for.

Who tested the cluster and confirmed it was OK? How was the test performed? How is your fuel gauge responding?

The "sender" is a actually a variable resistance drain to ground. Very simple to check with a multimeter, as is the wiring. Disconnected, the cluster will supply 12V to that circuit if its good or bad. Usually the cluster is where the fault lies. With the cluster connected and an 80 ohm resistor (empty tank) between the cluster and ground you should measure close to 4V. If the cluster has failed, you'd see around 2.4V
