How do I disable the factory alarm?

2000 GXE 5sp 187k

I've read several threads on here about the alarm, but not a single one has explained how to completely disable the alarm system.

My alarm keeps going off randomly. I need to get it disabled before my neighbors get upset. I know it's something weird that's causing it like using the key to unlock the trunk, but I still can't seem to get it to stop going off.

How do I disable the alarm for good?

For good? ..... Just disconnect the alarm speaker in the engine compartment.

That doesn't disable the alarm, it just stops the sound the alarm makes while it's going off. My car's alarm would be going off all night, the lights flashing, and I'd have no idea and a dead battery in the morning.

The alarm system won't set when a door, hood or trunk is open so one way would be to disconnect the wires from the bottom of the hood switch and the alarm system will think the hood is open.

Wish that were true. The first thing I did was put the hood up. The alarm went off about 10 mins later. While it might work for other Maximas, apparently mine is special...sadly, not the good kind of special.

If the alarm goes off with the hood open, then either the SECU module is fubar or the car had an aftermarket alarm installed and partially removed.

Try removing fuse #61 (under the hood, labeled ANTI THEFT). Another possibility is to remove the THEFT WARNING HORN RELAY #2 Under the hood by the power steering reservoir). In either of the above suggestions, check that the headlights will still turn on through the switch on the steering column.

I did what you said. Thanks. I think that'll work. Headlights seem to turn on just fine at the blinker stalk.
