2000 SE 5 speed flywheel question
2000 SE 5 speed flywheel question
Hi everyone. I'm planing on change out the clutch in my 2000 SE 5 speed some time soon. I pretty have everything I need which includes the flywheel friction surface. Unbeknownst to me, the VQ30DEK uses a dual mass flywheel and I'm not familiar with replacing the friction surface on one of those. How easy is it to replace and does it require removing the flywheel? Should I consider switching to single mass flywheel? I tries searching for threads that would answer my questions but most have links to stale or dead websites. Any info and help would be great. Thanks.

1 unbolt the pressure plate, remove pressure plate and clutch disk.
2. unbolt the flywheel assembly from the crankshaft. The flywheel assembly consist of the starter ring gear(flex plate)/ crank angle sensor trigger wheel, a spring washer, and friction surface
3. place the flywheel assembly flat on the floor with the friction surface facing the floor, the flywheel assembly will be sitting on the dowel pins for the pressure plate.
4. unbolt the friction surface from the ring gear/crank trigger, the bolts are on the back and there is no way to get to them without removing the flywheel from the crankshaft, the bolts heads are very shallow so you want it flat on the ground when trying to remove them so you don't strip the heads.
5. when you unbolt the friction surface, there will be a huge spring washer btw the ring gear(flex plate) and the friction surface, be sure to transfer it over to your new friction surface
