2001 Bose system with no sound

I have a 2001 with Bose stereo system and no sound. The previous owner said it worked, then the sound started to come and go. Eventually ending with a random popping noise through the speakers and now no sound at all. The head unit powers on and I can change channels but no sound. Anyone have the fix to this problem? mike

There are 2 possibilities. The first one is that the head unit (the radio) is bad. I have had head units that would play on cd and not radio, play on radio but not tape. The internal amplifier in the head unit was bad.

The second is that the speaker amplifier in the trunk is bad. You might want to check a fuse under the hood by the battery. The label on the cover is AUDIO. But if this fuse is blown, the push buttons for your radio station pre-sets won't work.

HI. For what it is worth, I have a 2001 with the non-Bose system (a rebranded Clarion) I had the same issue last fall. In my case, over time, all the speakers whent bad and stopped working. I removed the door panels and tested the speakers with a multi-meter which confirmed this. In my case replacing the speakers solved the problem.

DennisMik, I'm assuming the fuse isn't blown because the unit powers on but, I will check that fuse anyway. I"m looking on line for another head unit now. I will search for another amp to but, wait to get new unit before I purchase an amp. Maybe the head unit is the problem. Chris8428 I have the same Clarion system. I'm buying a head unit to see if that's the problem first. Then move to the next possible solution. Where did you get your speakers from? Mike

If you haven't already bought one, hit me up as I think I still have my Bose headunit stored around here and it is from my 2000 Maxima. Worked fine when it was removed years ago in favor of a Kenwood system.

New head unit is in and the 4 door speakers are working. However the subwoofer isn't working. Could it be a bad sub, bad amp, or both?

My sub went out years ago and I found an article here that my son and I followed (free version) to repair it. It has been years and it is still working fine. Might want to check this out: https://maxima.org/forums/5th-genera...-once-all.html

The sub has a relay in it that powers on the sub. This relay has a tendency to become unsoldered. Resoldering it takes care of that.

Looking for the upgraded relay to put back in the old relays spot. I have never soldered or desoldered anything in my life. Going on youtube to get an education. I'll pull the sub tomorrow and try to find all the tools I will need. Solder gun, solder, flux, solder sucker, and solder wick. Then I'll put my new education to work. If I get the sub apart before I can get the relay I'll probably just do the jumper wire and replace with new relay later. Thanks for the link corruptone, and thanks to everyone else for helping me along. Special thanks to CaTalyst.X for all his hard work and solving this problem many years ago. Derrick2k2se thanks for the closeup pics. They were a big help. I will report back when I do my solder job. Mike

Guy's I couldn't get the job done. Soldered a jumper wire in place like Derrick2k2se pic shows, installed the sub and got nothing out of the sub. I don't know what I did wrong. Maybe I fried the circuit board, who knows? I guess I'll be going to the junkyard to find another one. Or maybe I'll buy a refurbished one.

Got a junkyard sub today and soldered the jumper wire in place. Sub still not working. Does the amp supply power to all speakers or just the sub? I'm getting sound out of the other speakers just not the sub. Just wondering if my problem could be the amplifier

it was said to get a new relay and solder that in as a more permanent fix. i never soldered before this job, and did the soldering on the new relay. subs been working since. maybe look into getting a new relay, if i remember correctly, simply re soldering the relay doesn't fix the issue, but a new relay in itself will

10-4. Ordered a couple relays off of e-bay after the jumper wire didn't fix the job. They will be in next week. I will try it the right way.

Sorry it's been a couple weeks. Relays came in and I did my best job installing 1 of them. I didn't butcher this one, I did a good clean install. It didn't work! I took the Sub and my last relay to the local electronics guy and talked him into installing the last relay. Brought it home and it still doesn't work. My problem must be elsewhere, The sub was done professionally and by me 2 times. I guess the amp is the problem. It's the only thing I can think of. Mike

Sorry for the late reply Mastermike. I simply did an Amazon search and purchased a pair of JVC speakers. I checked the local shops but the price was way more than I wanted to spend on speakers for my Max.

sorry to hear this dude, hopefully something else stands out at this point, i am not entirely sure on the differences with audio on 2000-2001 vs 2002-2003 so cant be too much more help.

It's all good guys. Thanks for all the input. In my eyes everything is pointing at the factory amplifier at this point. I will swap it out for a junkyard amp unless someone on here has a known good amp. I'll do the swap tomorrow and post my findings.

Sorry it took sooo long guys. I replaced the factory amplifier and that did the trick. Just now posting the results because the local judge sent me on a little vacation. A word to the wise. Don't loose your cool and blurt out 4 letter words in court. You will go to jail, strait to jail, you will not pass go, and you will not collect $200 dollars.
