Leaky Power Steering Hose Replaced with Aftermarket one

Leaky Power Steering Hose Replaced with Aftermarket one from junkyard. Cost was $10, the old copper washers were even reused!

This replacement fixed the massive fluid leak and did result in a groaning sound from cavitation, but after following the simple air bleed procedure found within the FSM the buzzing and groaning went away. Alternating between turning back and forth lock to lock with the motor off, and motor running was the key.

All the stuff about aftermarket hoses not building adequate pressure seems inaccurate because if the steering power assist works with hydraulic pressure, it wouldn't work as well. This seems like a stealership campaign to sell rubber hoses for hundreds of dollars. After all, Nissan does not manufacture belts, hoses, tires, nuts and bolts etc. they are ordered from companies that specialize in these things.

I'll Chime, I've dealt with this issue many times. What If found is that its not the Hoses Inner Diameter that is always thought to be the issue, its not. Its the Pump. What creates the Pump whine, I've found is the aftermarket Pumps ability to control or release it's pressure to assist. OEM pumps work just fine with either hose after market or not. I've used several brands from many suppliers and There usually isn't a problem with noise until you install an aftermarket pump.. My Solution to this besides the hose, is not to replace the OE unit, But to simply rebuild/ Reseal it. Napa Stocks a Full rebuild kit for under 20 bucks. Can be done in an hr. #Perfection.

That's good to know. Have you ever had to rebuild any of the pump internals, or were you just fixing leaky pumps?
