244 Kilometer Maxima p0430 and breaks up at 4000 rpm

Hello I have a 2002 Maxima SE with 245000km on it and am having a couple issues.
  • P0430 Engine light on.
  • Y-pipe is broken.
  • Rattle on startup that goes away fairly quickly after startup. ( I did an oil change put in thicker 10w30 than the 5w30, changed oil pan gasket, oil cooler o-ring)
  • It seems like it breaks up @ 4000 rpm and just generally just feels slow and bad on gas. I get about 12L/100km is that average? I get better gas mileage in my suv.
  • I can never get an accurate reading of my oil. Dipstick always fully covered.
I have already changed spark plugs, oil pan gasket, intake plenum gasket and oil cooler o-ring (to stop some leaks which have since stopped.). Is it a clogged cat causing my power loss? I can take a video of these various sounds tomorrow if needed.

I would attack the P0430 code first. If its a clogged cat, that would also cause the 4000rpm issue since it can't push exhaust out quick enough.

For oil check, let the car sit overnight and check in the morning before starting the car. Its what I do and works well. I leave a napkin on the dash or steering wheel as a sleepy reminder to not start the car before checking it when I think it may be a quart low.

sounds like cats are bad, will do that with that kind of mileage, if you don't need to pass inspection you could just throw them out and weld in some pipe instead, if you do or have $ than cat replacement would be the way to go $$

rattle at startup is the timing chain, likely the chain guides are shot and need to be replaced, also to be expected with this mileage, expensive job

both combined are more than the car is worth, so at this point buying another car seems like the better option.

for the oil change best stick with 5w30 they made the motor for it, stick with engineer's recommendations

gas mileage will definitely hurt if car cant breathe right, also a maxima is a "i dont know how many miles it gets, i just fill it up" category of car, so...

sounds like you need a good 4-cyl camry se as a replacement

Spot on. Cats are clogged/substrate fragment obstruction=increased crank pressure=oil pushed up dip tube and out other areas.
