Check Engine light Gen 5 (2000) stuck on

code reader doesnt work. what are some of common issue for the light coming on ?
will it come on with bad injector or a bad coil ?
I ripped apart the stearing column and taped the chip key next to the tumbler so I could get a standard cut key to work which it works fine.
Can't imagine that has anything to do with it...! , the security has beed removed for a real long time and no problems with that being gone.

You need a working code reader to troubleshoot.

I Went to AutoZone and they said because the security was disabled the reader would not submit any information?

How was security disabled? A chipped key in the ignition (or next to it) is normal procedure when starting the car.

I would invest in a $20 code reader.

They are wrong. I have done the same thing with the chip placed next to the ignition cylinder for years with no issues.

You might have a bad ECU. Open it and look for damage or burned components.
