very loud break squeak backing up
very loud break squeak backing up
So I've had a 2003 maxima for a couples years now and was warned about the issue the previous owner was a local mechanic and unable to figure out why the brakes squealed loud enough to wake up the entire neighborhood when in reverse. Potentially ties in with a 2ndary issue that could be either brakes or transmission, which is every time I make a more abrupt stop, the car hesitates to start moving again for roughly 2-3 seconds before propelling me forward. thinking its a transmission issue though as even when you give a car gas with the emergency break on you can feel the car is trying to move whereas in this scenario the rpm's go up but the car remains motionless likes its not even trying to moveforward until it reaches around 2000 rpm
Not going to lie I really hate this car sure it accelerates quickly but other than that its like having a very costly overdramatic girlfriend tn every regard be it installing an aftermarket radio or trying to convert it to halogen headlamps because doing so is cheaper than replacing a single bulb in the stock hid setup. really hope the engineers who designed this rolling ****show end up in the darkest pits of hell with lawyers/politicians and insurance salesmen. the truly disturbing part is i've been told by several mechanics that this was one of the last cars to roll off their assembly line before a huge quality drop. the local dealership is nice enough however to remind me that my airbag might explode and kill me before the need to replace the water or power steering pump arises, and that's the most encouraging thing I can say about owning it.

I've had my 02 6 speed since December of 2012 and I love it. one reason I never buy automatic cars is because the previous owners never think to service the transmission. most people don't think to service an automatic transmission until it starts giving them problems.
as for the HID bulb just get a full HID kit from DDM tuning.
as for the water pump, I drain and fill my radiator every year. antifreeze has a lubricant in it for the water pump bearings. most waterpump failures are from lack of coolant system service. every fluid in your car is suppose to be changed at some point.
the sound you hear when reversing may be cheap brake pads, are they ceramic?

I agree my last car was a gmc jimmy that spent 3 hours with the lower half of the engine under water and it fired right up soon as I shot the water from the plug openings. Transmission survived me taking a 5 mile drive before realizing the fluid had turned to milk. Working on it was a pain but it was easier than this
With all of that having been said above, I’m wondering why you’re asking us what might be wrong and asking how to fix it as opposed to asking if anyone wants to buy it.
For the record, I own a 4th Gen (‘99), I’ve owned it since new (MAR 1999), I adore it, I do and always have done the vast majority of needed repairs and service myself and I find that no newer vehicle, let alone a new one, can provide me with anything this car does not.
Again, perhaps you simply need to find something else.
