150 amp G37 alternator looks possible

I picked up a salvaged 150 amp G37 alternator ($40 shipped) just to experiment on the 7th gen engine that will be going in my car soon.

with random hardware I found laying around and the Nisformance upper alternator bracket I was able to mount it to the 7th gen engine.

5.5 gen has a 6 rib and the G37 uses a 7 rib belt. I put the triangular file on to the 5th outer grove from the inside of each pulley and it appears to be straight.

the Nisformance upper alternator bracket fits perfect on it so I'm thinking the 5.5 gen upper bracket should also fit good..

the lower mounting point is where things can get creative. a spacer will be needed towards the front portion and the back portion is threaded instead of just having a hole.

now after all that I'm wondering if the lower front protrusion will interfere with the tensioner

could just cut the front lower leg and mount the alternator with just the rear lower leg or would the belt tension be too much??

You need both mounting points. The long bolt goes through and through.

I went back to the drawing board and decided to move the front lower mounting point closer to the block. I jumped the gun and did some cutting when all I should have done was drill the threaded hole on on the lower rear mounting point. after slicing a chunk off I now see that the nut is behind what I guess is called a flanged roll pin. I was able to find a m10 X 1.25 X130mm Allen bolt online that I can put through the alternator and nut after I drill the nut ( 13/32" = 10.3mm ). the pulleys seem to line up pretty good also. as for up top I can just do some grinding on the NIsformance bracket.

All these brain cells you're frying to go this route and all you have to do to retain 7th gen accessories is beat on the Right frame spar with a hammer for a few minutes Lol

Looks good. Looks like you're almost there. Just have to ensure the pulleys are aligned exactly. Don't wanna be throwing belts all over the road.

I had already considered using 7th gen accessories and making custom A/C lines until I needed to fix my A/C in a hurry this summer. my car has new compressor, hoses and expansion valve. plus I want to keep running my 2JR under drive pulley since I don't see too many bolt ons for the 7th and 8th gen engine. I also just purchased QJR's QR25de power steering pulley knowing now that it can be used on the 5th gen belt setup...

plus once I get this alternator to where I can use it I can return the 110 amp Autozone alternator for a refund, I have a hook up..

probably a month, I'm not really in a rush. I've been working 6 nights a week since February and the slight knock I hear from my almost 330,000 mile DE isn't phasing it lol. slight knock above 3,000 RPM.

today I have to change my front upper strut mounts but if there's signs of leakage on the struts I'm going to order new ones and use the time I today to do some prep work on the block. by prep work I mean the grinding as well as change the valve covers and spark plugs.

I have an engine stand but I still need to see about getting an engine lift. I don't want to have to buy one since I don't do much engine installs. I haven't done an install since I built and boosted my CRX. I was able to just strip it down to the short block than remove and install by hand with a friend.

I actually ordered a 150 amp 8th gen alternator that I found for $52 shipped. I figured I would test fit it since my engine arrived with the stock upper alternator bracket...

That will be plenty of alternator. Get a nice new AGM and beef up your cables and you'll eliminate a lot of future headaches.

the 8th gen (2019 and newer)150 amp alternator came in today and it fit perfect.

what I also did was measure the height of the 5.5 and 7th gen pulleys. they are the same overall width even though the 5.5 gen uses 2 belts and 7th gen uses 1. the pulleys will line up fine running a 6 rib belt..

now I just have to figure out the wiring..

or install the P.S. pulley along with the 4th gen 125 amp alternator so I can get the refund on my 5.5 gen alternator

.

I'm actually pretty lost about what you're doing with all the mixing of stuff, but I'm rooting for you anyway!

lol
just wanted a lil more juice from a readily available alternator, picked up a 150 amp 8th gen and it fit great despite running 5.5 gen crank pulley with one less belt rib.
