clogged main cat

no codes..replaced MAF, TPS, tranny solenoids, temp sensor, fuel pump.
pulled the front cat and this is what I found. got one coming so I'll update the thread once it arrives and I install. didn't think to gut it before I ordered it. the rest of the exhaust have all ready been replaced with cattman.
symptoms were the car wouldn't rev past 2500 rpm in park.

That's an impressive picture! Sounds like you've really been putting some work into this car... hopefully it's not a major oil burner so that your new converter can last for a while. Crazy that you weren't getting any "below efficiency" O2 codes.

no codes and it burns no oil. the problem was it would not accelerate past 2500 in park.

I heard it's usually a good idea to change out the spark plugs after changing out a bad cat.

This is normal, and you are spot on. The cat typically is dislodged and will pull out of its casing. A simple test for this to remove the upstream 02's. The hotter the engine gets the worse it runs in most cases with this and any exhaust that does make it out the back, is piping hott. A full clog of the cats on a 3.5 also makes the engine sound as if its out of time. Craziest sound Ive honestly ever heard. I do not recommend gutting cats, Imo the 3.5 just stinks catless. Keep us Updated.

That's great news! Any tips or advice for changing the front pre-cat? I'll be tackling this job soon.

18" wood spade bit, corded drill,

and prolly wear a dust mask, its basically asbestos like toxic material

dont forget if you gut precats you need a O2 extender (bung) or O2 simulator
