PNP sensor replacement on 6 speed Maxima question

Hey all, I have a chronic code for the sensor and may feel like swapping it out. If anyone has done it before, can it be swapped out from above if I remove the airbox, or do I need to jack the car up and access it from below? I park on city streets and don't have access to jackstands (or a driveway for that matter).

Thanks in advance, as always.

It's the park/neutral safety switch (park neutral position sensor). The car is registering speed while it thinks its in park, but manual transmisssion cars don't have a "park" gear. The car runs fine with the code and I just squeaked through yearly inspection without triggering it, but I know the code will return in a month or two.

The sensor is on the shift tower below the airbox, but I am not sure if I have enough access so I was hoping someone else did theirs and can report back.

I have an 02 6 speed. you can definitely get it off. it's on the firewall side of the transmission and you can get to it from underneath. from what I remember you will need a 12 point 15/16 deep socket.. the black switch on the firewall side under the cables is the neutral switch and the blue switch on top of the transmission is for reverse.

I wouldn't be surprised if the connector is the problem. the first of the many times I pulled my tranny I didn't remove the switches, transmission wiring harness or shift tower so I ended up buying a new transmission harness from Nissan. the switches themselves usually last a good while.

Thanks. I remember seeing last year when I had the airbox out to swap out a knock sensor. I vaguely remembered shift linkage around it but wasn't sure if that black connector sensor was accessible from above or not. It sounds like I will have to find a way to safely get underneath for the swap, or just let the code keep randomly reappearing. If I don't flog the car on onramps, I can keep the code from showing up. It's how I got it to stay off long enough to get it pass inspection.
