Window seals jam the power windows

2000 Maxima SE.

I've got 2 windows I cannot roll down because the inner door seal drags on the glass and slows down the window motor or stops it completely. This inner seal appears to detach itself from the door trim, starting in the middle, and disappears behind the top of the door trim as the window attempts to roll down. If I really wanted the window down, I have to help it by pushing down on the top of the glass after it has rolled down 2 or 3 inches, or enough to get my hand in the gap. Even then it doesn't really work, the rubber seal squeals a bit and you can tell the motor is struggling; I don't force it because I don't want to burn up the motors. Windows roll up fine, or as well as they can for a 20+ year old car.

Is this a common problem and is it easy to solve? Is there a guide or how-to?

Incidentally, I think I need better or upgraded seal material because these faulty seals started peeling off the 20+ year old window tint from the bottom, with that nice loud "crinkly cellophane" sound (like the wrapper on a Jolly Rancher). I now need new window tint and don't want it happening again.

I searched the forum and did not see a thread covering anything like it using different search terms and variations thereof. Results are largely dependent upon using the right (or wrong) terminology someone else used. The official Nissan part names might also be totally different.

the inner seals have felt on them and once they wear out the window is sliding against rubber. I had the same issue a while back and once I looked up the price for each I just decided to remove them.

Oh wow, I did not know they had felt on them but knew some cars did. I just figured the Maxima was different and that something else was wrong like UV damage or age on the rubber, plus it's used and I am the second owner, so what do I know?
Was the felt attached or bonded only to the side that faces the glass?

And again fantastic, thanks for sharing the pics as well, speaks volumes. I will not be shelling out that kind of money on this old heap.

So lastly, how are your windows doing with the inner seals removed?

Many thanks.

the felt is molded into the rubber. I haven't had any window issues since removing the seal.
