Another Check Engine Soon Light... :'-(

Whats up guys, for the last 2 or 3 months I've had the dreaded Check Engine Soon Light. I mean honestly there is no problem, everything works in tip-top shape but it's ANNOYING. My car is stock. I just changed the oil (10w-30 mobil1) and filter + air filter. All I use is 93 octane gas and the cover is closed as tight as can be.

From time to time I see it go off only to turn on after about 50-100 miles. If I unplug my battery It'll go off and I'll go through one tank and on the middle of my second one it'll show up again. Someone PLASE HELP!!! thanks in adv. guys!!!

This might be a good time to go to the dealer and have them "check engine." Don't know, just a thought.

Well this guy has a garage he said he'd hook it up to the comp for 20 or 50 bucks to decode it, but thats like 1 week worth of gas

How many miles do you have? You are still under warranty, right? Take it to the dealer for a checkup...tell them that the check engine light keeps coming on.

engine check light

When I got my 02 SE the sales guy told me that I must put the gas cap on absolutely tight to keep an air tight system. He said failing to do so would cause the check engine light to come on. Perhaps you have a slow leak in the cap or something. This is one possible explanation although certainly not the only answer. If you can't figure it out, I would agree with the other postings and let Nissan take a look. It may be an O2 sensor issue, etc. and that would be hard to diagnose otherwise.

Re: Re: engine check light

Do the 2k's have a 36 month 36,000 mile warranty? If so, then everything but maintenance should be covered. A check engine light is not maintenance.

Go back to the dealer!!!! Your still under warranty. You may need to have a program update done to your ECU.

It will be free only if they find a problem with the car.
If the problem is due to the gas cap, they will charge you.
I got charged $40 on my last "CEL" visit. Gas cap was loose
according to the dealer.
