well on my last 2000 maxima se I had the 17" wheels also and put about 35k on it before I traded it in for a 2001, but I remember checking the pads, and it looks liked it had still another 15k-20k left. I say at least 50k.

I just took my car in to the dealer for its 15,000 mile service(ive had the car for almost 2 years). According to the mechanic, I have 75% of the pads left. At this rate, ill go almost 6 yrs or 60,000 without having to change the brake pads

I ordered front and rear pads for my 2000 SE from tropy nissan (lost website but search engine will find). I paid $88 plus $8 shipping for front and rear total.

thats not bad at all. what about OEM rotors? Man, I hated Gr Prix brakes so much, GR Prix had defective calipers, I had to change rotors (120 each) and pads were gone so soon..Never buy brake parts from your neighborhood auto parts store.

I just had my rears done (20% left but on the screamers) (58K KM, 30K miles) the fronts have another 40% left. I am sure if I would have been easier on them they would have lasted longer. Other 2K+ owners have also mentioned that the rears wear faster.

If the brake pads are so good then...

Ok then...
I have 21.5 k miles on my max. I am not braking like i used to brake.. I have to depress the brake pedal ALOT more, almost touching the floor. If its not the brake pads causing this problem, then what is. I remember when i first got the car, the braking was tight, i was scared to touch the brake pedal cause it was so tight and responsive.
This is a good thread, all comes coincendentally when i am bout to buy the front Metal Matrix brake pads..should I?
PLease reply or email me if you know what i should do? check? service?

radpp16- i had the same problem with my 2k1 ae. when i got it with about 100 miles on it, the brakes felt strong but after 8500 the pedal was about at the floor even under normal braking. i started getting judder when braking from high speeds so i took it and my rotors were warped and the pads were of course shot. they replaced both and now everything feels fine. i would pump the brake when the car isnt turned on and see if it can hold the pressure after a a few days, i would take it somewhere to check the rotors.

1. Don't know for sure, but their wear doesn't cause "low brake pedal" - probably, you've got air in brake lines. Make a simple test - when the engine is OFF depress brake pedal several times - it has to get firmer with each time and after 3-4 depressings feel really hard, like a brick. If it doesn't - you most likely have air in the lines - bleed them and repeat the test.
2. Check your brake pads anyway, especially rears if they're stock. Mine was gone after 10 k miles if I recall correctly.

Mike.

Have you checked your brake fluid? Low brake fluid requires the pedal to be pressed further to engage the brakes.
