who balances when you rotate??

does anyone balance when you rotate your tires every 7,500 miles???

i went to the dealer today to get my second oil change and i asked him how much he charged to rotate the tires. he said $69. i said WHAT??? he said you have to balance when you rotate every 7,500 miles. he said if you don't balance you will get wheel shimmy. on my previous cars i never balanced when i rotated.

i may have to go to goodyear or some other tire place and see how much they charge.

thanks

Don't balance it and see if you get wheel vibrations... If you do then get it balanced, if not then you've just saved yourself $69-.... Go take your gurl out for dinner!!!!!.....

never

I never balance when I rotate and have never had a problem. Goodyear will rotate for $15.00 (lift charge) and they will do a safety check for "free" when it is up on the lift.

When you rotate you don't always have to balance. If you find vibrations at certain steady highway speeds 60+ most of the time it is PSI/balancing. Perfectly balanced tires make a big difference at high speeds.

I have never heard that before. The only time I balance (besides when I get new tires) is if I get some shimmy at higher speeds. Never in the past 10 years of driving have I needed to balance after rotating.
Maybe I am lucky...but I doubt it.

I would go out and buy a floor jack ($30) and torque wrench ($25) and rotate them yourself. Easy and saves you some money.

i still have the original tires that came on my car(don't have my new rims yet)

the proper way is to rotate them is to swap the fronts with the rears and no criss-cross.

correct???

For the stock tires, yep. The manual shows them going front to back.

I agree guys, front to back always for me...I do it at 7000 miles, and dont balance each time either. I'd say if you arent beating on the tires real badly you can go 2 years or so without balancing...its all in how they feel at various speeds...no wobble, shaking etc, no balance IMHO...waste of cash. No probs with mine doing it that way...
