Air Conditioner Racket

Need Advice.

I don't know a thing about air conditioning systems other than that they blow hot or cold air when you want them to.

My car makes an irratating clicking noise (almost sounds like a diesel engine!) The noise goes away when I turn the air conditioner off, so I know it has something to do with the AC. AC works fine though.

Anyone else have this problem? What did you do to fix it?

I would take the car to the dealer and have them check out the A/C compressor.

Does it make it in "Econ" mode too (the AC compressor is off in this mode)? If it does, then you're experiencing infamous "blower motor" noise, there's TSB on that, check stickies. If it doesn't - it's something new that I'm not aware of.

It does not make the noise when the "econ" mode is on, therefore it must be the compressor. Warranty is gone so I would like to avoid taking it to the dealer. Anybody have an idea what might be wrong with the compressor to be causing this noise. Is there maybe a simple adjustment I can try first before taking it to a mechanic?

man.....

mine does it too. the ac clutch is 2x louder than the engine.. very annoying. I've had 3 dealers say it's normal. I can tell you that my Pathfinder (I've had it same length of time) does it too. As does all of other nissans. It sucks.
