RPM problem

I have this problem with my 2000 Maxima:
RPM would jump or RPM flucuate, when driving at 70mph
which is what I cruise most of the time rpm at around 2400rpm
then suddenly jump to 3500 and sometime up to 4000 rpm for 1 sec
for no reason. Anyone out there experience this problem before?

I've seen this once on my friends 4th gen. It actually if funny, because you said it happens at 2400 rpm's and his was the same thing. He just took his to the dealer and they fixed it up. I'm pretty sure it was just a electical sensor a little out of wack, not much of a big deal.

I got this fix the third time that I drop my car at the dealer.
I drop my car at the dealer where i bought my car but they couldn't
figure out the problem but they were blaming that I used the cruise
control. Second time I drop off at the same dealer with video to prove
that the car was acting this and the service advisor said that I hit
the accerator and rpm would jump and the car were there for the whole
day without being fix. Third time I took my car to a different dealer and they got it fix. I am going to call Nissan of America to
complaint about that dealer because when another dealer can fix the problem how come I drop my car there 2 different occasion and they still wasn't able to fix my car.

Did you say that this happens when you dn't press the gas pedal? Because if you are crusing and press the gas a little the torque converter will unlock causing the RPMs to jump. That is if you have an automatic, or do you have a 5spd?

This happen to both with cruise control and without.
I set the cruise control at 70mph and without hitting
the gas pedal the rpm will raise at around 2500 to up
to 4000rpm and stay up for around 1 sec. Samething when
I drove my car without using cruise control and it did the
same. I just want to know how Maxima owners exeprience
this problem before.
