How hard to fix this dent?

Body questions?

My girlfriend got rear ended the other day and the kid took off. The cops did nothing to help and now we have to fix the car. We were quoted $600 to fix this. Is there any way that I could bang out this dent myself, and at least make the car look a little bit better while my girlfriend gets the money together to fix the car correctly? How hard is it to take off the rear bumper and what could possibly go wrong putting it back in? I don't want to mess anything else up in doing this. Will the bumper bolt right back up?

Here are s few shots of the car.

Thanks for any help

John

Have you looked underneath to what kind of access you have? You may be able to use something and push it out without removing the bumper. I have seen dents like that pop out by themselves sometimes. It's an area where there is no foam padding and you see that exact damage alot on Camrys for some reason. Good luck.

if you can get behind it and you can get enough leverage then you should be able to pop it out. it wont look as good as new probably but it will definitely look much better.

i have a smaller dent on the rear passenger side (not as huge as that one), but it seems really hard to push it out. my hand can barely fit behind the dented area so maybe thats why its really hard.

Yeah you can push that out a bit, but it wont be much better, if you look in m sig pic on the far right of the bumper you can see little bit of a dent. well my dent was originaly a big as yours. but i got behind there with a hammer and hit it out a little. there is very little room to move around though. basically its bitc* to do but its worth it. good luck.

$600??? for that amount, she could just buy a replacement bumper from a body kit and have it painted. i think the kamikaze kit is a replacement for the rear???

Dun know if my opinion counts not really an expert but i have read, heard and seen people pop out dents from their bumpers by first giving it a little heat with the use of a hair dryer doesn't have to be very hot but warm enuff so its more easier to push out instead of resutling to a hammer
hope dat helps

My bumper was not as deep as your dent, but it was pretty much in there. It cost me 400 for new bumper + paint.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try and push the dent out. I think it would look much better even if the paint is scratched. The Dent is really an eye soar. She keeps the car really clean (usually, the pics don't show that now because of winter) and the car looks sharp in that color. Eventually we will get it fixed, it's just not that important right now. We are trying to buy a house and that is where most of our money is going.

Thanks again

John

Re: How hard to fix this dent?

Man, I have a very similar looking dent on my front bumper...can't even begin to get behind it.

Quoted $650.00 to replace front bumper and remount my AE pieces...at a Nissan dealer.
