Question: Modifying Exhaust / Headers to Muffler
I tried doing a search but did not get solid data. For those that have modified their entire exhaust (i.e. from headers to muffler) or have any experience, what are your gains in terms of hp and 0-60 & 1/4 mile times? I have heard opinions that the Y-Pipe is the best mod for power. How about headers, B-Pipe and the rest of the exhaust, what power can you get from modifying those parts?
If I can achieve significant gains I will most likely change the entire exhaust. BTW, are there any side effects and what type of material is recommended and why?
This guy from Nissan Parts has a 1999 Maxima with a K&N cone filter, modified ECU, performace clutch (which BTW, he said made a significant differance -new to me-), and modified exhaust (from headers to muffler). He said he raced a 2001 or 2002 Impreza WRX on the highway and pulled away from it every single time from various attempts made by both. The same happened with a BMW M3 (which he believes to have been a 1995 to 1997). I am going with him to the track on the first week of May to check his numbers.
Power to everyone

No one makes headers for the 5th gen yet (at least I don't think so). Even if someone did the gains wouldn't be worth the money because stock headers are already manufactured for maximum airflow. I think a 4th gen gained like 5hp at the wheels with headers. Y-pipe gives the best gain for the money. Y-pipe + high flow cat + cat-back exhaust will give you real good gains and significant drops in your 1/4 mile time.

I guess not very damn many....

Thanks for your input. Do you have numbers as far as hp gains and 1/4 mile?

I'm teh archiver...........
It seems the headers make more toppend power and lose more bottom end power than a Y pipe. I have the dyno chart of the headers and there is an unusual torque increase at 3400rpm. I bet a bigger collector diameter on the header Y pipe would increase midrange torque even more.
