Yes they can, cause I did it. IT's really simple. Pop old tail lights out and place those in there. took me an hour. But that was the first mod I did to car, so I was kinda nervous and scared of screwing up.

They are exactly the same size, and look good on most Maximas. You can buy them from either Courtesy Nissan or CustomMaxima. Post pics if and when you decide to get them! The install isn't that difficult once you get out your old taillights.

It was probably the 3rd mod I did to my car. Fairly simple. It was just a B!tch to remove the tails cuz it had all that sticky tar sealant thing.. Took some nice tugs and pulls..

Could you post some pictures of your car with the 2k2 taillights installed? I might be interested in getting them sometime soon for my 2k1 Super Black Max.

I'm an idiot-

The more I read most post, the more vague i sound to myself. Bottom line, getting a 2002 max. Dont like the clear tails. I like the Black-Glass tails on 2000 and 2001 (they're same right). I want to put 2k or 2k1 into a new 2002. Everyone's saying that it is possible right? Thanks- sorry I'm an idiot.

Calm down dood This is possible. First off, the 'black-glass' taillights are called Smoked-Carbon Tails (I think), and they're from any 5th Generation SE model Maxima. Secondly, they would fit your 2k2 Maxima. You could get those from DaveB. I don't remember his # though. Do a search and you'll get it.

Yes, they are direct replacements. A hit of advice when taking your old tail lights off...heat up the outter edges of the lights with a hair dryer to loosen the sealant. It will make it much easier to take them off. Hope that helps

Greg, is it easy to put the lights back in after you take them out? Like say I wanted to take out my stock lights, and then put them back in, is that difficult to do? Or is it just as easy as putting in a different set of lights?

It's real easy. Just take out the 4 or 5 button things that hold the carpet in, pull that away, disconnect the wiring harnesses, take out the 4 (I think there's 4) bolts (I think you need a little socket wrench for them), heat up the edges and pull the lights out the back. Then scrap off the old sealant (or use new sealant if your lights come with it), heat that up a little and put it around the edges of the new lights. SLide them back in and put back the bolts.

It depends on what color your car is going to be? If it's a Super Black Maxima, like mine, then the Carbon tails will look great because they match the paint job. The clears look great on White/Grey colored cars though...

instead of buying new tail lights for $150+ but spend the $50 or so
to get your tail lights painted body color like Greg did (see his sig) although, your bottom half of the light will be amber, not clear like greg's since he has 2000 lights and they are different than the 2002s in that respect.
