Raced an SL600 and a supercharged Prelude

i am home for easter and so are a bunch of my friends. we were all hanging out last night and my friend kyle was there with is supercharged prelude and my friend chris had his Dad's SL600. the three of us decided to go driving and do some racing.

me being the stock 4-door sedan, i was kind of excluded from most of the races since there were only 2 lanes but i played with them from behind a little.

SL600...no contest. he was just there for fun.

S/C 97(i think) prelude...we went twice from a stop light. first time i had him by about 1/5 of car length but we shut down at like 65 cause we were in a 45 MPH and came across a curve. and the 2nd time i had 3 cars by the end of 1st gear cause he roasted his tires from the start. when i was behind the two of them. all 3 of us were about eaven until the end of 2nd gear but the SL pulled away when me and the predule shifted to 3rd and i seem to almost always miss 3rd gear so the prelude pulled on me a little bit after 3rd.

bottom line, i think me and klye's prelude were about dead even. if anything i think his car is a tad bit faster in 3rd gear but only slightly. first time i had actually raced anyone for real. it was pretty fun. im pretty sure i can beat any N/A sub $40,000 car on the road right now and even a handful or S/Cs and turbos.

You can beat a 2002 LS1 F-Body (lower 13s), 2002 Mustang GT (low 14s/high 13s), and a 2002 Mustang Cobra (lower 13s).

Won't you be at least able to hang with a 2k2 Mustang GT? I was wondering how those ran compared to 2k2 6sp's? Anyone with a 2k2 ever race one?

hehe...nice runs

Stupid cable shifter, though

I've hated every cable shifter I've ever driven. My old Camry and my 4th Gen both have direct link shifters. So much better

I'm not completely sure of this, but from what I understand:

A cable shifter shifts the gear indirectly by actuating cables. The feel is much more disconnected and usually not as precise, but the isolation can give a more "refined" feel with less vibration through the shifter.

A direct linkage shifter doesn't use any cables but is rather directly connected to the linkage. This gives a very precise and solid feeling action, but because of the direct connection there can be vibration felt through the shifter and it might give a "less refined" feel.

I'm not sure on that though so somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

The 5spds apparently all had direct linkage shifters. But the 5/6spd in the VQ35DE (alty and maxima) are both cable shifters and people are complaining about the feel not being as good as the old direct linkage 5spd's.

Missing gears sucks. I have yet to miss a shift in my 4th Gen.
