clutch slipping??!! at 16K

I was pulling out of my subdivision this morning after my car had only been running for about a couple of minutes (5 speed 2001 SE). As I was pulling out of the subdivision, I had to gun it b/c a car was barrelling down on me. Of course, since I was taking a left off a slight hill (and we don't have traction control!), I got that terrible wheel hop and I hit about redline until I shifted into 2nd. After that, I noticed that the clutch was slipping pretty badly for a couple of seconds, but then apparently went away. I doubt that I was riding the clutch, so I'm not quite sure why it acted up. The car only has 16k.

Questions:
What caused the clutch to slip?

Why would the clutch slip for only a few seconds and then go away, i.e. shouldn't it remain that way? Is it because the car had not sufficiently warmed up?

Have I done any permanent damage to the clutch or just accelerated its wear?

Your thoughts, as always, are much appreciated!

-J

drive it normal for the next few days. it's possible you just overheated the disc/pressure plate and the slipping is temporary. if it continues to slip, then you're fux0red and most likely need a new clutch kit.

If you did this you would smell a very unpleasant burning smell! FYI, in case you were wondering.

Probably the heating of the discs caused the temporary slippage. However, if that is not the case, warranty is a beautiful thing, let the dealer fix it.

Beating the car first thing in the morning is not good for the car either.

Only if the clutch disc is overheating & fried. If the PP is overheated temporarily, you won't smell a thing.
