Touch Up Paint Question

Hey Guys

I own a 2002 Majestic Blue Max, recently while washing the car i've noticed a few stone chips just above the side skirts along the opening of the rear passenger door.

I ordered in for a touch up pen and recieved it today. I have a few questions to ask

1) For those that have used the pen what is the best technique to apply it on. How to prep up the area, the number of coats i should do the order stuff like that.

and

2) Anyone else who has a Majestic Blue color used the touch up paint, i ask this because my family also owns a 94 Quest and when I used the touch up pen there the color didn't at all match, hopefully the quality of these pens have changed. I am a bit hesitent to use the pen right now due to this issue

To those that can help thanks in advance
I look forward to reading all your comments and suggestions

I tried using those, and it sucked. People will notice it and it comes off pretty easily if done wrong. Of course I have a light colored ride so it might be better for you. Hopefully someone can give you better tips on it.

They are HORRIBLE. My dealer sent me to Infinity, where they almost sold me a G35.. ... The touch up paint stinks ! It does nothing ! Anyone have any options ? Ive had the car for 4 weeks and have 3 chips already ! I wil pursue Nissan , if this continues !

They won't do anything for you. Trust me, if they do, they'll apply that same touch up paint they sold you. You have the same color as my Maxima so I think we notice it easier.

I have close to 10chips now with less than 5K (I've stopped counting them) WTF?

Kloogy, we should sign up at NISSANPAINT.COM

I know that very few people have actually registered, but tons of people have the chip problem. WHY DON'T WE ALL JUST REGISTER, DAMN IT? I guess I should register, instead of just complaining bout it, right? I will, I promise! (tomorrow)

I had a '95 with 110k on before I bought my 2k2, and I had maybe two paint chips in it. It has only become a problem with the 5th gen max.

Get used to the chips. There will be more in the future.

I just used the touched up on a small hood chip this morning. The paint matched fine and I am having the 3M clear bra installed this afternoon. That should take care of the frontal surfaces.

I am also concerned about the sides. Last week, a spot about the size of the eraser on a #2 pencil flaked off of the left rear fender down to the bare metal (I have sanded & primed). I also just found a "smear" on the left rear door.

I think I could rub this Nissan paint off with soap and water if I don't watch out.

Sad thing is...

while I love the look it just washed and shiny...

it is almost like it might be better to leave the car dirty so the dust/dirt/grit can add a layer of protection to the paint!!!

Re: Sad thing is...

I totally agree. Seriously!

Of course, it's also easier for me to spot new chips or if someone just touched my car coz the layer of dirt is gone

Btw, if i remember right, the issue on paints is not entirely Nissan's fault. Has something to do with some law passed recently that prohibits paint manufacturers to include certain ingredients that causes environmental harm, albeit at the cost of lower quality paints

I use the touch-up paint applied with a tooth pick. I just try to get paint in the chip itself to color it so it blends in.

I've tried Langka on my truck for practice and I can get the repair leveled but the paint color is changed somewhat and doesn't blend as well.

I find that a fine tip permanent marker works pretty well on the stone chips.....find a color "or just black for dark colored cars" that matches close, dab it and hit it with a touch of wax. Isn't a permenant fix, so no worries about permenant screw-ups, but it does last for a month or so.

Oh no this is common on 4th gens as well, thier front end get knicks very easily. Touch paint doesnt work to me and some cases it makes the car look worse!

when i bought my 5.5 gen in 09, body looked ok. but after i took it for a wash, there was paint chips everywhere! especially the front hood and rear bumper. i'm looking for majestic blue touch up paint, but seems to be an elusive color at AAP and autozone.

The best touch up paint I've found is Dr. ColorChip. I used this on the front of my Max, and my wife's Armada, and it really works well. Go to www.drcolorchip.com. Highly recommended!!

Yeah my paint is in so bad of shape right now, that if I use a certain type of wash at the carwash, that it will at least take off spots of paint somewhere on the car(mainly any of the doors). But yeah Nissans paint they give you doesnt ever seem to match and you should somehow clearcoat it also, or else the paint will chip right off again.
