The Light Around The Ignition Key

I know it was posted somewhere, but can someone tell me how (and if) I can change the green light that surrounds my ignition key to a blue one. I searched the forums, but didn't find it in the results.

Thanks

If you do this, let me know how hard it was and how it looked. Please.

Well, I did it. It's the same #37 wedge bulb that are in the dash, which means that they don't come in colors :-(. << Frown with a zit. LOL. The good thing is that the "green" color is made by a cap on the bulb, so you have the option of taking it off and making the ring white. I went a little further as to try to get the bulb to the color blue that I am using, and was unsuccesful in doing so (as I was in the dash lights too). If anything changes, I will reply to this post.

I thought radio shack sold those little bulbs in blue? I'm going to have to check that out, I was thinking about doing this today too

I pulled the little bulb around the wheel out on Saturday. I took the green condom off of it and I painted the bulb blue. Now it looks like a super white bulb but it's a little dim. I looked around a bit for a colored bulb in this size but I had no luck.

How hard was it to get at the bulb in the first place? How many screws, etc etc..

3 screws for the steering wheel housing. Then just slowly pull them apart. Once it's off (it may take a bit to remove it), then you can just twist the bulb to get to it.

Just put a blue condom on..

As far as i remember my performance shop had all sorts of those small and big colored bulb condoms. But than again, i'm not sure what bulb are we talking about. Actually the green "ring" light matches my cheap door step lights.
Good luck

Wouldn't that dim the light a lot?

I got the bulb out in less then 5 minutes of work with no instructions. It's pretty easy to do.

Would that really matter? I mean it is more of an accent thing anyway once you get used to where your key goes...

I can just picture studman getting his car ready to sell someday. He takes off all the mods so a buyer won't suspect the car has been altered. A prospective buyer checks out the car. "Umm, looks pretty good, everything stock, probably driven conservatively. Let's start it up. Wait, what's this? The ignition light is blue. Forget it, this car is a post-moded fraud."

I attempted to change the bulb color a while back. It's not just a plug in play mod. The bulb doesn't plug into a socket or anything. It's hard wired into the steering column somewhere. I ended up frying my smart enterance control module. Lucky a dealer replaced it under warranty. I told them I had no idea how it happened

Not true, the bulb does come out of the socket, it is a plug in. I had to use my teeth to pull it out but it does indeed come out

Ok, Some of us screwed up b/c I had to take 5 out of my steering column. 2 hold the top to the bottom and the other 3 hold the bottom to the wheel.
