what is involved with dropping a maxima?

ive been on the org for a short time now and im already a fanatic.

im very interested in dropping my maxima and eventually getting a kit and 18"tires/rims. however, before i purchase anything id like more information concerning springs and struts!

i cant afford the expensive parts like the eibachs so ive been looking into the maxspeeds. the comments shared by people on the org that are using the maxspeeds were very positive so ive decided to get them (when the next GD rolls around, i just missed the last one). however, ive noticed that some org members have kept their stock struts while others have not.

since i do want the maxspeeds, what factors must i consider in possibly purchasing struts?
  • why do i need new struts?
  • what kind of struts are out there?
  • how much do struts usually go for?
i was under the impression that "springs" (eibach, maxspeed) was all that was need to drop a car. but i keep hearing about struts (tokico)? can anyone enlighten me? im just kinda sorta confused. heh.

my advice would be to change out the struts and springs at the same time! i had eibachs on my stock struts and they blew within 6-10k miles..... when u talk about blown struts it isnt too bad but ur handling sucks and ur car FLOATS! it rattles and does wired stuff DONT GO THERE!!!..... i then had to redo all of the compressing the springs and all once more! just do it one time! i dont know all of the struts out there but i have tokicos they work rather well but some peeps just dont like them b/c they rnt adjustable etc...... there are many more brands KYB, koni........ the price for the tokicos ar about 290ish for all for the prices on the ther will be about 200 bucks more since they r adjustable and so on!

I have the Eibach kit. I still use my stock struts. The springs have been on for 20k miles and I have had no problems with the stock struts. The only problem I have had was alignment on the front. It's not terribly bad, but it's not great. I will be getting KYB struts VERY soon though and it's best to just get new struts when you do get springs. I would have, but I was strapped for cash a bit when I got the springs. And just for me to be safe with alignment I'm going with camber adjustment plates in the front as well. I don't want to be buying new Z-rated tires everything 20k miles.

I'd like to know where you can get them for $290...they are $328 from shox.com and I think that is the best price.

I was planning on Maxspeeds or H&R's on my 2K2 when the new KYB AGX's come out this summer

On my previous Max I had Eibach's on my stock struts for 40K miles with no alignment/tire/ problems. The ride was a little choppy but that went away when I replaced the stock struts with Tokico Blues.
