Installed UDP on 2K2

Pretty straight forward mod, except the &$%@# idler pulley WOULD NOT budge. Had to use an air hammer to get the thing off.

Overall thoughts: A noticable difference throughout the powerband. Throttle feels more responsive. My first surprise: second gear BURNED the tires...not just the standard "chirp". Second surprise: Gears seams to "glide" in better..for lack of a better word. Almost an effortless evolution to switch gears. Sorry, I can't explain it better than that.

Myths: Turned on A/C, defroster, headlights, and cranked the stereo (with the amp). Everything still ran fine. Headlights were still bright. Nothing died. Nothing blew. Nothing melted. The Earth's polarity remained the same.

I think I can break into 13s with this mod. I'll let you guys know...

Great news!! With this review and GregP's...this looks to be a must have mod for the '02 without any adverse side affects.

Are having air tools a must for this mod? I have heard it is tough to get it tight and getting it off (using the bump start method??).

Are you planning on doing a write up on the install? It would be awesome for the DIY’ers.

Thanks again, great work!!

I had access to air tools, but the main pulley wouldn't move with the gun (Must get more PSI). We connected about 6 extensions to a wrench with a breaker bar and it came off on the first yank.

The main pulley wasn't that bad . The hard one was the smaller idler pulley (the pulley that's raised and lowered to tighten the belts). I have no idea why it was so hard. We stripped the thing all to hell until it finally "bumped" off.

How does the car sound, is it any louder?

Warranty? We don't need no stinking warranty.

I think it actually depends on your relationship with the dealer. So the answer is maybe.

In other words you haven't run your car yet? I really don't think you will be running high 13's. Best bet is to go to the track then post times.

That's fair. Ok, I'll take it back. Kloogy could get high 13s in my car with this mod. I'll make him drive and steal the slips..

if people can run 14.3 and 14.2 stock then with a cat back, intake, and the UDP i wouldnt totally rule out 13s.

I just ordered the SSR Competition 17" by 8" rims with Kumho 712s (235/45/17). From my estimates that should save around 10lbs at each wheel. From that alone (that would be my only mod) I should be into the 13s with an excellent launch (I'm hitting 14.2s bone stock as evidenced in my sig) but with an UDP, if it is all its cracked up to be) that'll seal the deal.

It is "possible" but highly unlikely. Case and point: look at your track times? What "other" people got really means jack! Bottomline what did you run or what he will run! Go to the track, post times, then start talking bout 13's.

Your knowledge of track times is completly astounding. In the future I'll be certain to ask for your approval before each post. BTW, is this post OK?

now, you will probably never find me saying something like this to anyone again because i'm usually a pretty nice guy but you've only been posting for a few weeks and i'm already sick of you. i have only come across 5 of your posts and ALL of them were you b*tching or arguing with someone. i was going to say this earlier today in a different post where you were b*tching but i didnt. all i was saying was that IN GENERAL the 6-speed maximas HAVE THE ABILITY to run 14.2s and 14.3s stock so with the mods that he has on his car he quite possibly might HAVE THE ABILITY to break into the 13s. its alright to be skeptical like Dave B. his skepticism is good and gets us thinking but you just make assumptions and act like there is no way you could be wrong. if you disagree then say something like "your times will improve but i dont think you'll be able to get into the 13s"...not:
"What "other" people got really means jack! Bottomline what did you run or what he will run! Go to the track, post times, then start talking bout 13's."

Well said Newman! BTW, have you been able to take your 2K2 to the track for times yet. I haven't seen many people post updated tiems since my 14.2 a month ago. I ordered lightweight rims/tires so I hope that with maybe the UDP will put me into the 13s. Or at least give me 'the ability' to be in the 13s.......j/k

yeah i took it to the track about a month and a half ago. i did very very very badly. i'd rather not say my times to avoid embarrassment but i will anyway:

15.4, 15.4, and 15.3 - here are my excuses...in no particular order:

-the car only had 1050 miles on it.
-i only had the car for a week.
-this is the first manual car i have ever owned so i didnt know how to drive it well.
-i was launching too hard. i had 2.5 60's on all 3 runs
-i missed 3rd gear on my 1st and 3rd runs. (i tried to shift to 3rd, it didnt engage, had to back it out then put it back in)

i was so p*ssed. im going back fairly soon so hopefully ill get some pretty normal times. hopefully 14.5 or lower.

Yeah, I still need to work on my 60 ft times. I've found that the best method to launch at is a fast (not dropped though) release from around 2900rpms. Thats for the stock tires. Once my Kumhos and wheels come in, I'm hoping they are sticky enough for a 2900rpm drop. That should net me some 2.15 60 fts. My best 60 ft so far is 2.2X.

i was just dropping the clutch which was a huge mistake. mad wheel hop. i need to slip the clutch in a little easier next time. ive been thinking about it a lot. im confident that i'll get some decent times.

How about: "Don't know how to drive?"

Those times are far...far away from 13's. So a couple of guys hit low 14's a couple of times. Means very little for anyone other than themselves. Your running modded 2k auto times pretty much.

Don't get mad at me! Your the one with the 6spd running those times. I'm just stating facts! You got a long way to go before you can even dream of 13's.

Go to the track run very low 14's or even 13's. Then start talking about how your UDP will get you into 13's.

where in this post did i say that i was pushing 13s?

it is very relevant considering the fact that we own the exact same car. and its happened more than a couple of times.

i know those times are terrible. i know it was my fault that i got those times. no one is perfect the first time they try anything. just like anything, i'll get better with practice. no need to be a d*ck.

Based on your clever comebacks, its obvious you're still struggling to grasp the art of argument. Maybe if you would have finished that 10th grade writing assignment last week, you might have learned a valuable lesson. Your english dribble isn't worth the paper I wipe it with and the collective wisdom in your 90+ posts wouldn't brim in a tea saucer. I would suggest to spew your chunks of ignorance on a board more compatible with your IQ. Try barney.com for something a little more your speed.
