Saw the elusive 2K2 GXE today

Has anyone else seen one of these? It was the first time I'd seen one. I took my car to Nissan to get some warranty work done, and there was a newer looking Maxima with the 2001 GLE 5 spoke 16" wheels. I looked closer and it was a 2K2 GXE, sticker price was just over 25K. Not bad for a car with HIDs and 255 horsepower. It didn't have any options though.

Are you in Canada, cause that price sucks. Reports are on the org of 02 SE's going for $22.5.

Nope, in Kentucky, all the SE's here were listed around $28K or so, GLEs were the same. I just thought it was interesting they had a GXE, I hadn't seen a 2K2 GXE yet.

Yes, Nissan is making a lot more stipper SE's than they used to and fewer GXE's. They predicted that a lot of people would go for the Altima 2.5S or 2.5SL before buying a Maxima GXE.

I remember hearing that they were making only 5% of all Maximas GXE's for this year, or something like that. I think I'd still take a Maxima GXE over an Altima 2.5S or SL, I'm not sure those cars compare, the Maxima's V6 over the Altimas I4 is a big difference, but some people might actually not buy a car for the engine, but for the features and amenities, which the GXE has less of compared to those two.

Nissan really wants to sell more SE's. For the first time (starting in 2002) you cannot get a sunroof on a GXE. You also cannot get the 6 speed on the GXE, probably because they want the same amount for an auto as they do for a 6-speed...no economy there.

Right, there is no more manual for the GXE this year, the one I saw was an auto with pretty much no options.

Is the Comfort and Convenience package available for 2k2 GXE? that package made a major difference in the 2k1 GXE's.

I am sure that ALL 2002 Maximas come standard with the equipment that came in the Comfort & Convenience for 2K-2K1's.

Yeah... just compared 2k1 and 2k2 on carpoint and it looks like that's the case... the ONLY options they list are all DIO's (dealer installed).

Just bought a GXE last month. I wanted it because I did not want 17" wheels nor leather seats. 17" tires are too expensive.

My window sticker on my GXE was $25437.00 I paid $20979.00 which included $1000 off for the rebate. The only options I have are floor mats and splash guards. Don't really see why anybody needs more than what comes standard on a GXE.

kloogy,

No I'm not kidding! I don't want or need any other accessory that this car does not already have.

I would have to admit though, I would take more hp!

its all difference in opinion. you probably wouldnt agree with someone who says "i dont see why anyone needs more than what comes standard on a bare bones Kia Sophia" but if you dont want options then there is nothing wrong with that! you've got too much self discipline for me

Where in KY are you? Im in louisville and the dealerships here would not go under invioce on a 2k2 if their life depended on it. I just picked up my 2k2 SE 2 days ago, there were actually 2 gxe's on the lot

I tend to agree although I feel the rear end looks naked without a spoiler and it can have benefitial effects on CD and body lift at high speeds (don't know if the Max's stock spoiler does, though).

I do, however, admit that to someone living in the right climate (I don't) a sun (moon?) roof is quite nice.

Damn, 255hp for $21k. Now all you need is some tranny work and the Stillen S/C, and for $25k you can go hunt Porsche 911 Turbo's.

... in a GXE, no less. That would pi$$ somebody off.
