WRX kill redux

A follow-up from WRX kill"

This is really a funny coincidence, but when I was picking up my car from the shop (Maxspeeds, see other thread) I met the guy in THAT WRX!

Hey said, "Did you race a black WRX by Creighton last week?" He said he couldn't believe he got beat, he must've been asleep. He said it was the first time he'd lost. He had a cat-back sys already and was there getting a BIGGER turbocharger and a 4" downpipe. He said this was all ordered b/f we raced. I believe him. He was this fifty year-old guy having a self-proclaimed mid-life crises. He said this was the first new car he had bought in 22 years and was driving an Accord.
This is his car on the rack at the shop. Check out the pipe running where the fogs used to be.

And he's running what I assume to be STi headlights. They look much better than the bug-eye stock lamps.

WRX

I noticed in Sport Compact Car that a stock WRX dyno's between 140-145 hp to the wheels. So if you race one from a roll that has just a few mods like intake and exhuast, your chances are pretty good. Esp in a 2k2.

No way that car DYNO's at such a low #. Im not yelling at you, bu tthere has to be a mistake, cause the car is not that slow mid-range and non-launch.

this must be the same magazine that says the Maxima runs slower than the Altima... yet you still trust it?

i dont see how SCC can dyno that car having 140-145hp to the wheels, yet C&D got a 5.4sec 0-60 out of it, anyone else think thats A LITTLE fishy?

its called AWD. It is completely different than our FWD setups.. AWD loses alot of power 2 the wheels b/c it is driving Twice as many wheels

he has a front mount IC if u havent noticed! 5.4 0-60 seem fishy for a AWD turbo car...... yeah right! those things will scoot off the line and are capable of CRAZY 0-60 times.... dont think that these guys r slow if u line up with one at a light u will lose if the guy is anywhere near decent of a driver! on the highway u will toast them they have 2 differentials to turn!

will

As PlanoSER said, you can't compare a Dynojet 2WD dyno with a DynaPack 4WD dyno. They still haven't come up with something as reliable and consistent as the Dynojet dynos.

A STOCK 2002 WRX has 147 hp/141 lb-ft torque good for 14.3@93.5mph.

With a high flow stock mount intercooler(not as good as FMIC), 3" exhaust, and boost controler boosting to 14psi, they push 182 hp/170 lb-ft torque good for 13.6@99.5mph.

A few mods can turn a stock WRX into a monster.

Its been stated that most mags have to rev up the car for the turbo to kick in and drop the clutch to get those kind of numbers
Its just another 2.0L four-banger until its turbo kicks in

I've loved the Impreza's for a long time so i got much love for the car But i got more love for my Max

How to launch a 2002 WRX

Rev to 5k and drop the clutch
Hold on and get ready to shift
I just traded in my 02 WRX for a 2k MAx (traded in a 300 Twin for the WRX)

The cars are quick and can hold their own it dosnt take much to get one into the 12 sec range and your freind on the Lift wil be there soon if he keeps those mods up 5k from ATS or cobb tuning will put the car in the high 12's and he has done the most expinsive mods from what I see (FMIC and Bigger Turbo 1200 each) do underestimate a WRX they can move

as for the numbers keep this in mind A 12 sec 300 ZX has roughly 10k plus under the hood and 400 to 500 hp at the flywheel a WRX will do it with 300 flywheel HP

Some of you should do more research

I had a 99 Eclipse GSX before I bought my 2k2 Maxima and it is alot like the WRX...the all wheel drive helps it jump off the line, but from a highway start it's hampered by the parasitic hp losses of a transfer case, driveshaft, rear diff, 2 more axles and then the wheels/tires. Typicalls FWD cars lose 18-22% and AWD vehicles 33-40% to parasitic drag. As an example, my Eclipse would run high 13s at the track, but on the highway it could not pull away from a stock Roush Stage 2 Mustang from a 60 mph roll.

I was talking to a couple of WRX guys at the track on Friday and they said there has been a ton of clutch and tranny issues with their cars--I'm sure you can get the hp, but at 280-300 you "MUST" get tranny work done
